A day after agreeing on the foundations of a coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats (SPD), the candidate for German Chancellor noted: "Sharing nuclear weapons is an issue we need to discuss... we must be stronger together in nuclear deterrence."

After World War II, Germany pledged not to use nuclear defense in several international treaties but still participated in arms-sharing agreements of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). (Reuters)

* Dangerous violence in Syria erupted on March 6 between the new government and minority groups, killing 231 members of the security forces and 250 fighters supporting ousted President Bashar al-Assad, along with 830 civilians of the Alawite ethnic group in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus.
