* Belarus has a new Prime Minister: President Alexander Lukashenko has just made an important decision in appointing senior personnel by appointing Mr. Alexander Turchin to the position of Prime Minister, replacing Mr. Roman Golovchenko. A day after agreeing on the foundations of a coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats (SPD), the candidate for German Chancellor noted: "Sharing nuclear weapons is an issue we need to discuss... we must be stronger together in nuclear deterrence."

Middle East-Africa

* Dangerous violence in Syria erupted on March 6 between the new government and minority groups, killing 231 members of the security forces and 250 fighters supporting ousted President Bashar al-Assad, along with 830 civilians of the Alawite ethnic group in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus.

Syrian security forces fired into the air to disperse protests in the capital Damascus on March 9 after pro-government marchers clashed with people gathered to commemorate civilians killed recently.
