At the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that Vietnam is in the process of implementing energy transition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but must also ensure energy security. It is known that Erex Group is a Japan-based electricity producer and supplier, a pioneer in the field of using biomass fuel in biomass power plants in Japan.
Erex has a lot of experience in converting coal-fired thermal power plants to biomass power plants in Japan with some initiatives such as the mechanism of co-firing biomass fuel with coal fuel to adapt to the increasing demand for electricity consumption. Therefore, with many advantages of Vietnam, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hopes that Erex can exchange experiences in implementing the conversion in Japan so that Vietnam can learn from them during the conversion process.
Speaking with Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, Chairman of EREX Honna Hitoshi said that Vietnam has great potential for clean energy development, especially forest development in line with the company's development goals. Because the company's factories use agricultural and forestry products as raw materials to produce clean, environmentally friendly energy. Currently, Erex has proposed 14 biomass power plant investment projects in the provinces, so it is expected that the investment will contribute a small part to the international commitment to zero net emissions by 2050, along with stabilizing the base capacity to serve other socio-economic activities.
Regarding this content, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hopes that proposals and projects need to create jobs, ensure the lives of local people implementing the project, and ensure sustainability and prestige for the state and businesses.
In addition, Vietnam has also participated in the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Initiative initiated by the Japanese Prime Minister, so Minister Dang Quoc Khanh believes that the experiences of the Erex Group can contribute to promoting the implementation of the AZEC Initiative in Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, the new Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki said that currently, Japanese enterprises have a foundation of experience and technology in reducing carbon emissions, therefore, besides the Erex Group, there are many Japanese enterprises that want to cooperate with Vietnam to support Vietnam in reducing carbon emissions, and are willing to share the operating policy of carbon credit management. Ambassador Ito Naoki affirmed that the Japanese Embassy will be a bridge to support this cooperation to always develop.
Also during the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki and Chairman of Erex Group discussed the implementation of the upcoming meeting of the Vietnam - Japan Joint Committee on the implementation of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). Currently, Vietnam and Japan are cooperating to implement the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), which is considered one of the mechanisms to concretize the orientation of the Paris Agreement, with great potential to become a global mechanism with an increasing network of participating countries. Through the meeting, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Embassy of Japan as well as Erex Group hope to have more effective cooperation activities, contributing to further deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, especially in the field of natural resources and environment.
