According to Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, if they know how to develop their strengths, overcome their weaknesses and maintain their confidence, young people can create their own value.

That was one of many messages that diplomat Ton Nu Thi Ninh emphasized during a dialogue with students of Hoa Sen University on March 1, 2025.
She is the President of the Ho Chi Minh City Peace and Development Foundation, former Ambassador of Vietnam to the EU and Belgium, and former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee.
With the theme "Limitations and advantages of Vietnam and Vietnamese people in building and forming human resources to meet the requirements of the new period", the program brought multi-dimensional perspectives on human resource development.
One of the highlights was the conversation between Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh and her friend Pham Huynh Huong, former valedictorian of the Human Resources Management major at Hoa Sen University in 2023, currently an operations manager for a start-up project.
Huong confided that when she first started working at the first companies, she faced a lot of pressure. The actual working environment at a company is quite different from the corporate environment. Not only does it require professional knowledge, the corporate environment also requires many soft skills, codes of conduct, communication, etc.
The veteran diplomat posed a thought-provoking question: "Has being valedictorian really helped you?"

Responding to this question, Pham Huynh Huong shared that she could not give a definite answer. Initially, the title of valedictorian helped her gain attention, even creating "famous" moments with videos that went viral on social networks.
However, when she entered the working environment, she realized that the title no longer meant much.
Huong even admitted that the title made her feel pressured. For example, there were many situations where Huong did not dare to express her opinion in front of her colleagues for fear of being wrong.
Agreeing with Huong, Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh also said that the title "valedictorian" is both an advantage and a burden. Valedictorians have the advantage of reputation, but also have to face the pressure of expectations from society. In particular, it is the pressure to prove one's ability.
Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh believes that behind the titles, the more important thing is whether young people can demonstrate their abilities in the labor market or not. That ability will come from each day of studying and accumulating experience of each young person.
In particular, she emphasized that besides the spirit of always being eager to learn, you will also need to maintain confidence in yourself.
For example, many of you feel "not as good" as your Western colleagues, but in reality, each person has their own strengths. Many Western colleagues will not be skillful in communicating with colleagues in Vietnam, and are not familiar with Vietnamese culture and manners.
If you know how to develop your strengths, overcome your weaknesses and maintain your confidence, you can absolutely create your own value in the labor market.
