In recent years, due to the development of the economy of Thai Binh province in general and the economy in the villages, farmers are no longer interested in farming. Only the elderly stay at home to do farming, while the younger generation tends to work in companies and factories to have a more stable income and have days off.
Father and son "risk" the fallow fields
Farming is too hard, no matter how sunny, rainy or cold the weather is, farmers still have to work hard, with no days off, so many families have abandoned their fields.
It is heartbreaking to see the fields in the area dry and fallow. Since 2012, father and son Pham Van Trung and Pham Minh Tan have boldly collected fallow fields, invested in many equipment and machinery for cultivation, helping to increase crop productivity every year, earning hundreds of millions of dong each year.

Sharing the difficulties when he first started, Mr. Pham Minh Tan recalled that he started his business in 2012 by buying a Chinese harvester worth 253 million VND, but at the end of that year, due to lack of experience and 20 hectares of rice being flooded by a storm, he and his father were miserable.
"There were times when we felt discouraged because of the hardship, but my father and I always encouraged each other not to give up. And now, after many years of farming, the experience we have learned and accumulated has also increased, along with investing in more modern equipment to help the rice growing process become less strenuous and more productive and effective," the young man from the rice fields confided.

Up to now, Mr. Tan's family has expanded the cultivation area to more than 11 hectares in 3 communes: Nam Chinh commune 3 hectares, Nam Ha commune 4 hectares and An Ninh commune 4 hectares.
Invest in machinery, including drones
Mr. Tan has invested in more machinery and equipment to serve production, including: 3 plows, 1 harvester, 3 transplanters, 1 tray seedling sowing machine and 1 finished rice drying line with a capacity of 10 tons/drying time (drying time is about 8 - 12 hours).
The total investment value of materials, equipment and machinery for production is up to 3.5 billion VND. In addition to farming on his family's rice fields, Mr. Tan also signed farming contracts with a number of cooperatives to help free up labor for farmers while improving efficiency in rice cultivation.
It is estimated that each crop, Mr. Tan's family harvests and plants for farmers from 36 to 43 hectares, plowing service land in the area up to more than 70 hectares. He is currently planting Japanese rice variety DS1, with an estimated average yield of 2.2 to 2.5 tons/sao.
The above rice variety will be purchased by traders right at the field right after harvest. His family's average annual profit is up to 500 - 600 million VND, bringing a stable source of income for the family.

Recently, the family has invested in an additional pesticide spraying plane and accompanying machinery and equipment with a total value of about 400 million VND to help reduce labor and increase efficiency. The DJI T50 pesticide spraying plane is a device equipped with advanced technology and possesses many of the most modern features today. Therefore, it helps the pesticide spraying process to be many times more effective than the manual pesticide spraying method - Mr. Tan added.
His family's new farming method has contributed to opening a new direction for farmers in agricultural production. According to the future development plan, his family will continue to expand more land areas for cultivation and further develop the scale.
Mr. Tan hopes that authorities at all levels will have policies to support farmers in establishing private cooperative models to expand business and develop production towards agricultural economics, attracting farmers to return to rice fields and increasing income from agriculture.

The achievements over the years have been a great source of motivation for his family to be determined to stick with the fields and get rich from rice on their homeland.
