Balut has the effect of nourishing yin, blood, intelligence, and helping the body grow. However, there are 3 issues to avoid when using this food.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trong Hung - Head of Adult Nutrition Examination and Consultation Department, National Institute of Nutrition (Hanoi), Balut is a nutritious food. Two eggs equivalent to 100g provide about 180 calories, 13.6g protein, 12.4g lipid, 4g glucid, 81mg calcium. This is also a food rich in phosphorus, beta carotene, vitamins A, B, C, iron... However, this dish also contains high cholesterol content of about 600mg/100g.
Two balut eggs have the same amount of calories as a bowl of rice but less protein than 100g of beef. Users should only use balut eggs as a protein component in the food group that provides nutrition, changing them weekly to diversify and enrich the menu, not eating them for a long time.
In addition, the high lipid and cholesterol content in balut eggs is not suitable for overweight and obese people. If you eat this type of egg, you need to cut down on other foods and carefully calculate that the total energy intake is always less than the expenditure.
In terms of Oriental medicine, Doctor Do Minh Tuan - Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association said that balut has the effect of nourishing yin, blood, intelligence, and helping the body grow. However, it is necessary to note 3 issues to avoid when using this food.
Firstly , you should not eat it at night , because this food is difficult to digest due to its high protein and cholesterol content. Eating it at night causes discomfort, bloating, and is harmful to the digestive system. The best time to eat this dish is in the morning, but you should not eat it too often or eat a lot at once.
Second , pay attention to each age group and group of people . Children under 5 years old should not eat balut eggs because their digestive system is not fully developed, which can easily lead to bloating, digestive disorders, and negative effects on health. Children 5 years old and older should only eat half an egg at a time, 1-2 times/week.
Obese people, the elderly, patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, and uric acid metabolism disorders (gout) should limit eating this dish.
Third , only eat 2 eggs/week and need to boil thoroughly because eggs can be contaminated with bacteria that are harmful to health. Users should not use boiled duck eggs overnight, because the nutrients in them will produce harmful bacteria that affect health.
When eating, you should eat the duck eggs with about 5g of fresh ginger, sliced into thin strips, and 5g of fresh Vietnamese coriander. This is a harmonious combination that brings balance to the body. Vietnamese coriander and ginger have a spicy, warm taste, and help warm the stomach, prevent bloating, disinfect, and dispel cold.
