The success of trade promotion activities will boost opportunities to access the EU market for Vietnamese agricultural products, vegetables and fruits.

Many prospects for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits

In recent years, Vietnam has emerged as a country with great potential in the production and export of agricultural products, vegetables and fruits thanks to favorable climate and soil conditions. In particular, localities across the country have expanded their cultivation areas, helping Vietnam become one of the countries with the largest vegetable and fruit production in the ASEAN region with an output of over 30 million tons per year. This not only meets domestic consumption needs but also creates a significant supply for the export market.

Regarding opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products and vegetables in foreign markets, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - said that vegetables and fruits are Vietnam's strong products. Currently, our country's vegetables and fruits are present in more than 60 markets around the world.

In recent years, Vietnam has successfully negotiated to open the market for 19 types of agricultural products of plant origin and fresh fruits to many countries such as China, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and the EU.

Notably, the success of trade promotion activities has opened up new opportunities for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. Trade promotion activities and negotiations to open official export channels for fruits and vegetables to international markets have been promoted by all levels, sectors and industry associations. Vietnamese fruits and vegetables are currently exported at high prices to many demanding markets thanks to improvements in quality, preservation and processing of products. This not only helps diversify processed products but also brings higher added value, positively contributing to the national economy and improving the lives of farmers.

For example, recently, within the framework of the National Trade Promotion Program approved by the Minister of Industry and Trade in Decision 3663/QD/BCT dated December 30, 2024, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) organized the Fruit Logistica 2025 Fair in Berlin, Germany from February 5 to 7, 2025. This is one of the world's largest annual events, attracting thousands of businesses, suppliers, distributors and experts from all over the world with the aim of promoting trade, cooperation and introducing new products and technologies in the fruit and vegetable industry.

This is the 5th year that the national pavilion - "Fruit of Vietnam" has participated in the Fruit Logistica Fair with enterprises in the field of production and processing of vegetables and fruits for export such as Vina T&T Co., Ltd., AntFarm, Viet Tropical Fruit, Golden Bee, Phuoc Hy JSC, Anh Duong Sao, Cao Nguyen Moc Chau, Comex Farm, Tropical Fruit... Vietnamese enterprises participated with booths displaying typical products such as mango, dragon fruit, durian, jackfruit, fresh coconut, green-skinned grapefruit, passion fruit, lemon, rambutan... had product introduction sessions, signed memorandums of understanding and met with international partners...

Opportunity to access potential markets

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, the number of fruits and vegetables officially exported from Vietnam is increasing. In particular, with Vietnam signing new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with countries and partners around the world, our fruit and vegetable industry has many opportunities to access potential markets. This also promotes trade promotion activities and negotiations to open official export channels for fruits and vegetables to international markets to become more vibrant.

In particular, according to the representative of the Fruit Logistica Fair Organizing Committee, maintaining the presence of the Vietnamese pavilion in Berlin - Germany annually has a positive meaning, spreading impact on Vietnamese agricultural products in general and fruit and vegetable products in particular because this is one of the world's largest international trade fairs for fresh fruit and vegetables held in Europe.

Mr. Huynh Canh - Chairman of Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association - who directly participated in the Fruit Logistica Berlin 2025 exhibition, said that through the fair, Vietnamese enterprises in general and Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association in particular have more opportunities to find new customers, strengthen relationships with customers in Europe. From there, contributing to helping the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry, including Binh Thuan dragon fruit, develop further in this "difficult" market.

In order to promote long-term access of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to this market, the representative of the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany pledged to create all conditions to support Vietnamese enterprises to connect with local partners, promote the export of Vietnamese fruits to the German market in particular and the EU in general, and take advantage of the tariff advantages that the EVFTA Agreement brings to the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will also coordinate with relevant agencies to continue to focus on perfecting mechanisms and policies to create conditions for the fruit and vegetable industry to develop more strongly. In particular, promoting trade, organizing fairs and exhibitions so that Vietnamese agricultural products, fruits and vegetables can be officially exported to large traditional markets and promoting the expansion of new markets.

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export value exceeded the 1 billion USD mark in 2013 and continued to grow in the following years. In particular, 2024 marked an important milestone with fruit and vegetable export turnover reaching over 7.1 billion USD, an increase of more than 27% over the previous year; the outlook for 2025 shows an expectation of reaching 8 billion USD.
