E-commerce helps Vietnamese women businesses expand the EU market, improve export capacity and increase competitiveness in the world market.
On the morning of March 18, the Trade Promotion Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the SheTrades Program of the International Trade Center (ITC SheTrades) to launch an online training course "Promoting online exports to the EU market through e-commerce platforms for women businesses in Vietnam".
Speaking at the opening of the training course, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong - Deputy Director in charge of the Center for Information Technology Application and Digital Transformation in Trade Promotion, said that after launching the project, specialized training programs will continue to be implemented. In particular, a free support package will be provided to 32 female-owned businesses to participate in the Alibaba platform within one year. Currently, the review and completion process with SheTrades is underway, and the list of selected businesses is expected to be announced by the end of April.
The training course not only helps businesses access new e-commerce trends but also provides practical knowledge on how to expand the market, especially into the EU - one of Vietnam's largest trading partners.

In the first training session, Ms. Nguyen Xuan Hai Yen – Deputy Director of Proline Vietnam Company introduced an overview of cross-border e-commerce and export regulations and customs procedures. In addition, the Deputy Director of Proline Vietnam Company also shared about the potential of the EU market for Vietnamese enterprises.
According to Ms. Nguyen Xuan Hai Yen, data from the General Statistics Office shows that Vietnam's import and export in 2024 reached a record, with export turnover reaching nearly 800 billion USD. However, small businesses only account for about 22% of total foreign direct investment (FDI), showing that there is still much room for expansion and development.
Opportunities to penetrate the EU market through e-commerce
The EU is one of Vietnam's largest partner markets. Currently, Vietnam's exports to the EU are very diverse, from agricultural products, processed foods to industrial products and textiles. Some key products include computers, electronic products, phones and components, with an export turnover of tens of billions of USD each year. In the textile and footwear sector, Vietnam is in the top 5 largest exporting countries to the EU, focusing mainly on the markets of Germany, France and Spain.
In addition, the EU is also an important market for Vietnam's agricultural products. Vietnamese coffee currently accounts for about 16% of the total market share in this region, while items such as cashew nuts, rice and tropical fruits are also in high demand. For seafood, pangasius and frozen shrimp are the two main export products, with major consumption markets such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

At the training session, participating businesses also raised questions related to the potential and competitiveness of products as well as the policies of e-commerce platforms to consume goods in the EU market.
The representative of the business household of Bird's Nest and Palm Honey Chan Phuong expressed interest in the issue of registering the food facility management code and declaring import and export in the European market. "To go to the US, register with the FDA to get the FDA code. To go to Europe, which organization should you register with?" , the business household representative asked the speaker.
With its vast potential, e-commerce is becoming an important tool to help Vietnamese businesses, especially women-owned businesses, expand their markets and improve their competitiveness. Through this training course, businesses not only have the opportunity to access e-commerce platforms but also receive specific instructions on how to operate, approach customers and optimize export strategies. This will be an important step for Vietnamese businesses to maximize their advantages, increase their presence in the international market and affirm their position on the global trade map.
The second session of the training course will take place on the afternoon of March 18, 2025. Cong Thuong Newspaper will continue to update information about the program.
Following the success of the Launching Ceremony of the Project “Promoting exports to the European market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned businesses in Vietnam”, the Trade Promotion Agency in collaboration with the SheTrades Program of the International Trade Center (ITC SheTrades) organized an online training course “Promoting online exports to the EU market through an e-commerce platform for women-owned businesses in Vietnam” to improve the experience and knowledge of e-commerce for businesses. |
