'Seeing' the new generation Peugeot 408

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Quang Bao, General Director of THACO AUTO, recalled the legend of the Peugeot brand appearing in Vietnam in the 1930s, through products ranging from pepper mills to sewing machines and especially the Peugeot goldfish bicycles.

In the North, in the 1930s, owning a Peugeot goldfish bicycle was a source of pride.

In the South, in the 1970s, Peugeot cars were known as the most luxurious passenger car brand, and represented the class of the upper class in Saigon. However, Peugeot cars from before 1975 have gradually disappeared, becoming a legend in the minds of Vietnamese people because they were only heard of by the previous generation and the few remaining products are precious souvenirs.

Peugeot passenger cars, motorbikes, and motorized cyclos before 1975 in the South

By 2013, THACO and Peugeot had signed a cooperation agreement to transfer technology for the production, assembly and exclusive distribution of Peugeot passenger cars in the Vietnamese market. The three completely new Peugeot SUV models 2008, 3008 and 5008, with luxurious and distinctive designs, modern technology and reasonable prices are the factors that help Peugeot models conquer customers and bring success in sales for this brand.

After 10 years of cooperation, THACO AUTO has sold more than 35,000 vehicles; in 2022, it achieved a record sales of more than 10,000 vehicles, leading the European car brand in Vietnam. Peugeot has successfully returned to the Vietnamese market, continuing a "legend" that has been absent for more than half a century.

The General Director of THACO AUTO also mentioned an event that shook the world automobile market in general and in the US in particular in 2009 when the Italian FIAT group acquired the American Chrysler group. But an unprecedented event in the world automobile market is the merger between two automobile manufacturing groups with a long history, famous in Europe and the world, which is also the merger of 3 automobile manufacturers in Italy (FIAT), the US (Chrysler), France (PSA) to form the Stellantis group in 2021.

After the merger, Stellantis officially owns 14 leading automobile brands in the world. It can be said that the Peugeot brand with its new generation of products is a convergence of the quintessence of design and technology of Italian supercar and luxury brands, the strength and modernity of America, the sophistication and romance of France. And today, Peugeot and THACO AUTO introduce to the Vietnamese market a new era of the Peugeot brand, starting with the new generation Peugeot 408 model.

The new generation Peugeot 408 is launched with 3 versions: Allure, Premium and GT, with 5 color options, especially the new color obsession blue. The car is designed with an SUV Coupe style, harmoniously combining the strong sporty elements of an SUV, the elegance of traditional Sedan lines and the unique coupe-style rear end. The new generation Peugeot 408 carries the latest identity of the Peugeot brand with a prominent logo combined with a unique borderless radiator grille, creating a sense of limitlessness, and is characterized by a fang-shaped LED light system and 3 lion claws.

The new generation Peugeot 408 has a spacious space that is scientifically and reasonably arranged, designed according to the Peugeot New i-cockpit language, optimizing the listening - viewing - touching experience, bringing a unique and different feeling. The car model creates highlights with a wide field of view, intuitive 3D display; the central control area is designed with a future trend; the driver-oriented touch screen is scientifically arranged, easy to access and operate, the air conditioning system combines air quality control features, the sound system is realistic and vivid.

The car is developed on the 3008 chassis platform, improved and upgraded in the direction of integrating the new generation technology of Stellantis Group, helping the car reduce weight, increase soundproofing and bring stability, meeting the requirements of high performance operation. The new generation 1.6 Turbo Puretech engine is exceptionally powerful combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds. In addition to advanced safety equipment like existing Peugeot models, the new generation Peugeot 408 is also enhanced with new smart high-end features.

This year also marks 10 years of cooperation between THACO AUTO and Peugeot.

On the occasion of 10 years of cooperation between THACO AUTO and Peugeot, THACO applies a 5-year unlimited km warranty policy for all Peugeot vehicles, with up to 15% discount on spare parts; deploys Mobile Services programs - remote customer care and Mobility Services - support for transportation when servicing vehicles, to bring convenience to customers throughout the usage process.

The price of the new generation Peugeot 408 announced by THACO at the event is 999 million VND for the Allure version; 1.099 billion VND for the Premium version and 1.249 billion VND for the GT version. Customers who buy a new car will be eligible for a 30 million VND discount voucher for the new generation Peugeot 408 (until December 31, 2023); a 10 million VND discount voucher for the Peugeot 2008, 3008, 5008 and Traveller models.
