On March 12, a university in Ho Chi Minh City became the first Vietnamese university to enter the QS World University Rankings by subject 2025 in two fields: design (top 101-150) and performing arts (top 51-100).
The QS rankings assess 55 subject areas at 5,203 universities from 148 countries and territories. In the performing arts field, only 150 schools were ranked out of 1,812 surveyed educational institutions. In the design field, 260 schools were ranked out of 2,760 surveyed schools.

According to Dr. Vo Van Tuan, Vice Principal of Van Lang University, the school is the only representative of Vietnam to be included in the rankings of these two fields with quite impressive rankings, top 51-100 in the field of performing arts and top 101-150 in the field of design. According to Mr. Tuan, this is also the first Vietnamese university to date to be named in the QS rankings for design and performing arts.
With this result, Van Lang University is in the same group with prestigious universities in the world such as Australian National University, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Newcastle University (Australia), Peking University (China), Tokyo University (Japan); National Taiwan University; Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Colombia University (USA); Korean University; Amsterdam School of the Arts (Netherlands), University of Southern California (USA), Newcastle University (UK)... in design - art.
Van Lang University is in the top 51-100 for performing arts and top 101-150 for design of QS Rankings.
Rounding out the top three performing arts rankings are the Royal College of Music (UK, No. 1), the Royal Academy of Music (UK, No. 2), and the Paris National Academy of Music and Dance (France, No. 3).
In the field of design, the top 3 include the Royal College of Art (UK, No. 1), University of the Arts London (UK, No. 2) and The New School, New York City and Paris (US, No. 3).
It is known that QS's ranking criteria in these two fields include academic reputation index and employer reputation index.
In the Academic Reputation index, QS evaluates the reputation of universities based on a global survey, collecting expert opinions on the quality and academic excellence of the schools.
In the Employer Reputation index, QS evaluates the reputation of universities based on a global survey, collecting employers' opinions on the quality of graduates from the schools.
