With a larger battery pack that can be charged from an external power source, the PHEV offers a certain electric range without operating the petrol engine.
Ask:
I see some plug-in hybrid cars (PHEV) on the market such as Kia Sorento PHEV, Volvo XC60 Recharge. How far can these cars run on battery?

Mr. Duong Van Manh, MH Auto Service workshop (Viet Hung Urban Area, Long Bien, Hanoi) advises:
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are the most advanced hybrid vehicles that can be charged via an external charger. With larger batteries that can be charged from an external power source, PHEVs provide a certain electric driving range without operating the gasoline engine.
However, due to the structure containing both an ICE engine and an electric motor, and carrying a large battery pack, PHEVs have a greater weight than gasoline or pure electric cars. While the battery pack can only handle a certain distance, usually less than 100km.
For example, according to the distributor of the Kia Sorento PHEV, the car can run 71km on battery alone, but the actual distance driven by battery is probably only about 50km. Similarly, the Volvo XC60 Recharge is announced by the distributor to run 81km on battery, but the actual distance driven by pure electricity is about 60km.
In short, plug-in hybrid cars in the Vietnamese market are in the highest-end segment of car manufacturers, due to the complex configuration of the car that can run on both gasoline and electricity in a body size similar to traditional car models.
