DeepSeek releases upgrade, increasing competition with US companies

On March 25, Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek released a major upgrade to its V3 large language model, stepping up competition with leading US tech companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

The new model, DeepSeek-V3-0324, made available through the Hugging Face AI development platform, shows significant improvements in areas such as reasoning and coding capabilities compared to the previous version.

The highlight of this release is that the model is released under the MIT license, allowing free use for commercial purposes.

According to initial reports, DeepSeek-V3-0324 can run directly on high-end consumer hardware such as the Apple Mac Studio with M3 Ultra chip.

According to analysts, with many breakthroughs provided for free, DeepSeek-V3-0324 is directly challenging the exclusive business model of AI giants like OpenAI.

Analysts also say DeepSeek's distinct approach to AI development and delivery is also helping it drive exponential innovation that closed models have limited, helping to narrow the significant AI technology gap between China and the US.
