Today, February 10, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri Nguyen Phu Quoc said that the Veterinary Department of Region 3 has just had test results concluding that the dead buffalo sample of Mr. Tran Duc Loi, Na Nam village, Trieu Nguyen commune, Dakrong district (sample taken in Trieu Ai commune, Trieu Phong district) detected Pasteurella multocida bacteria causing septicemia in buffaloes and cows; the dead buffalo sample of Ms. Ho Thi Lieu, Village 5, Ba Long commune, Dakrong district detected Pasteurella multocida bacteria causing septicemia in buffaloes and cows and Babesia parasite causing babesiosis.
Regarding the epidemic situation, up to now in Trieu Ai commune, Trieu Phong district, the epidemic is stable.
In Dakrong district, on the morning of February 9, at Mr. Ho Van Ngam's household, Village 5, Ba Long commune, a dead cow was discovered in the barn.
According to Mr. Ngam, from February 8th onwards, the cow was still normal and showed no symptoms of the disease. On the morning of February 9th, the cow was found dead in the barn. Upon examination, the dead cow's belly was distended, the natural holes were normal, and the lymph nodes in front of the shoulder and thigh were swollen.
Then, on the morning of February 10, four more buffaloes died. Two of them were in Village 5, Ba Long Commune, and two of them belonged to people in Trieu Nguyen Commune, Trieu Ai Commune, Trieu Phong District.
Thus, as of 4:30 p.m. on February 10, the total number of dead buffaloes discovered belonging to people in Ba Long and Trieu Nguyen communes, Dakrong district was 34. Of these, 26 were discovered in Trieu Ai commune, Trieu Phong district and 8 were discovered in Ba Long commune, Dakrong district.
To prevent and control epidemics, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to coordinate with the People's Committees of Dakrong and Trieu Phong districts to drastically implement measures to respond to the epidemic situation.
Accordingly, on February 8-9, Ba Long commune organized antibiotic injections for preventive treatment for 114 buffaloes and 70 cows at the epidemic site, reaching 100% of the buffaloes and cows currently in Hamlet 5, Ba Long commune.
Trieu Phong district organizes the destruction of dead livestock to ensure technical requirements. Provides chemicals to localities to organize disinfection spraying in areas with dead livestock, barns, pastures, and roads in epidemic areas.
“Based on the test results of the Veterinary Department of Region 3, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to direct the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to coordinate with the People's Committees of Trieu Phong and Dakrong districts to deploy disease prevention and control measures according to regulations and urgently organize vaccination against erysipelas in buffaloes and cows in the spring of 2025 as planned,” Mr. Quoc added.
