After consecutive successes at the national team level, Vietnamese women's volleyball is honored for the first time in history to qualify for the world championship next year in Thailand. At the 2024 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship, which kicked off today, September 22, in Thailand, Vietnamese women's volleyball has two representatives, LPBank Ninh Binh Club and Duc Giang Chemical Club. Last year, because no Vietnamese club registered to participate, the Vietnamese team participated under the name Sport Center 1 and won the championship, winning a ticket to the World Club Championship. This year, with the active participation of the clubs, Vietnamese women's volleyball participated in the Asian tournament, which is truly a club tournament. As the national champion, LPBank Ninh Binh Club represented Vietnam in the Asian Club Championship. Then, the national runner-up, Duc Giang Chemical Club, was allowed to participate by the Organizing Committee, so Vietnamese volleyball has two representatives competing.
Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, said that the enthusiasm of domestic clubs to participate in international club-level tournaments shows a positive change. "LPBank Ninh Binh and Duc Giang Chemicals have a team of players of equal quality. When participating in the Asian Club Tournament, they added foreign players, so they promise to compete with their opponents. This is a good sign for Vietnamese women's volleyball because domestic players are trained when competing with high-level international teams," said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
LPBank Ninh Binh team owns the number 1 hitter in Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, along with players Nguyen Thi Trinh and Le Thanh Thuy. This team also recruited foreign players, the captain of the U.20 team of Thailand, Warisara Seetaloped, promising to be competitive. Meanwhile, Duc Giang Chemical Club has main strikers Tran Tu Linh, Ly Thi Luyen, Bich Thuy, and two foreign players, Tichaya Boonlert (Thailand), Elena Samoilenko (Russia), who are not inferior to their opponents.
According to the draw results, LPBank Ninh Binh team is in group B with NEC Red Rockets (Japan), Saipa Club (Iran), Monolith Skyrisers (Philippines). Duc Giang Chemicals team is in group A with host Nakhon Ratchasima, Kwai Tsing (Hong Kong), Kuanysh (Kazakhstan). In order to help the clubs have more opportunities to compete, this year the Organizing Committee changed the format by having a round-robin to determine the rankings, then dividing the quarter-finals. According to the coaches' assessment, the host Nakhon Ratchasima team and NEC Red Rockets club are two strong candidates for the title of champion of the Asian Club Championship this time. The two representatives of Vietnam are also capable of competing for tickets to the semi-finals.
