Madam Pang burst into tears when announcing to sue former FAT President for huge debt

Madam Pang is the current President of FAT, replacing Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang who resigned right before the new term election at the end of 2024.

During his term (from 2016 to 2024), Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang is said to have unilaterally decided to terminate the contract with Siam Sport Company, causing financial losses to the company due to the loss of many television copyrights that it had previously held.

According to Thai press, Siam Sport is the unit that holds the television copyright for many tournaments in Thailand, including important tournaments such as Thai League. According to the agreement, this company is allowed to hold 95% of the profits, while FAT retains 5%.

However, in 2016, Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang directed FAT to unilaterally terminate the contract because he thought the agreement with Siam Sport had many irregularities. At that time, some information said that the Thai football agency wanted to share more profits than 5%.

Due to this disagreement, the lawsuit between Siam Sport and FAT has been going on for many years. Recently, the Supreme Court of Thailand ruled that FAT must compensate Siam Sport up to 360 million baht (nearly 300 billion VND), including interest from the date of filing the lawsuit until payment is completed.

The ruling has sent a stunning shockwave through the FAT during Madam Pang's tenure as president.

Madam Pang: When I came to FAT, I had nothing but debt.

On March 11, after returning to Thailand from the FIFA General Assembly meeting in Switzerland, Madam Pang spoke out: "The amount of 360 million baht has become a debt that the federation must pay. I respect the decision from the Supreme Court. The termination of the contract with Siam Sport is invalid, forcing FAT to now pay compensation for damages in this case.

However, I also decided to urgently refer the case to the Special Committee. In the lawsuit for compensation, according to Article 76 of the Civil and Commercial Code against the second defendant, former FAT President Somyot Pumpanmuang and the board of directors at that time, are the ones who must bear responsibility."

Madam Pang also burst into tears and said: "When I arrived, FAT had nothing, only debt. I beg for sympathy. And I beg for encouragement from fans and all media. These issues need to be clearly resolved and the consequences are from the previous term of president, not happening during my time like now."

GOAL Thailand also reported that Madam Pang and her associates have completed all procedures to sue Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang and the previous FAT Board of Directors. Therefore, Thai football will certainly have many changes in the near future, after the historic lawsuit and the huge amount of money that FAT must pay in compensation.
