Tam Anh General Hospital Hanoi has just announced the launch of a super CT scanner from Siemens Healthineers (Germany), the first and only in Vietnam.

The launch event of the Somatom Force VB30 CT machine is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (1975 - 2025).

Leading diagnostic imaging technology

The announcement ceremony was attended by Mr. Simon Kreye - Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam, Mr. Ngo Chi Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tam Anh General Hospital System; People's Physician, Prof. Dr. Ngo Quy Chau, Deputy General Director of Tam Anh General Hospital System, Hanoi and many scientists, leading experts, experienced doctors in many fields (such as oncology, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neurology, digestive, pediatrics...).

At the ceremony, Meritorious Doctor Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Xuan Hien, Director of the Center for Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, said: In recent years, CT scanning technology has continuously made great strides, from 64 slices to 256, 512, 1975 slices and has now developed to a generation of super machines with the ability to reproduce more than 100,000 slices in one scan like CT Somatom Force VB30.

The Somatom Force VB30 CT scanner has the fastest scanning speed in the world, capturing the entire body in less than 2 seconds, dozens of times faster than conventional CT scanners and many times faster than older generation multi-row CT scanners.

In addition, CT Somatom Force VB30 is also the CT system with the thinnest slice thickness today, only 0.4mm.

The machine is capable of separating and "visualizing" extremely small lesions at the millimeter level, helping to detect early cancer, lymphomas, inflammatory masses, stones, abnormalities in organs and organs with small and complex structures such as the brain, cerebral blood vessels and coronary system of the heart.

This is also one of the high-end CT lines that applies the strongest artificial intelligence (AI) today.

The most modern ALPHA and Fast Phase technology helps mark and analyze human body anatomical landmarks, automatically recognize anatomical landmarks on films; automatically calibrate, select the clearest and most useful images to help doctors diagnose quickly, conveniently and more accurately.

According to statistics from the American Medical Physics Association, Somatom Force VB30 is one of the CT systems with the lowest X-ray dose. Therefore, the machine is especially useful for children, patients who need regular CT scans such as people after joint replacement, spinal intervention, people undergoing cancer treatment, etc.

Revolution in diagnosis, supporting treatment of many dangerous diseases

Mr. Fabian Martin Singer, Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers Vietnam, commented: With outstanding scanning speed and detailed image quality, the Somatom Force VB30 CT machine can support doctors in making more accurate and faster diagnoses, thereby helping to optimize treatment regimens and improve treatment effectiveness for patients.

Tam Anh General Hospital becoming the first unit in Vietnam to deploy the Somatom Force system version VB30 integrated with AI marks an important step forward in improving the quality of diagnostic imaging in Vietnam, helping to expand medical screening, while protecting the health of future generations.

Like the case of 3-day-old patient Tran Van Kien, who came to Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi for examination with wheezing due to bronchiolitis.

On the chest X-ray, the doctor determined that the baby had a pneumothorax but there was not enough imaging data to find the cause.

The child had a CT scan of the lungs using the Somatom Force VB30 machine, with a radiation dose of only 0.14 mSv, equivalent to one X-ray. The results showed that the child had a congenital microscopic rupture of the air bubble, causing a pneumothorax.

These cases were previously often limited to CT scans due to concerns that large doses of radiation could affect the child's development, making it difficult for doctors to find the cause.

People's Physician, Prof. Dr. Ngo Quy Chau, Deputy General Director of Tam Anh General Hospital System, said that the super CT Somatom Force VB30 machine will be prioritized for use in diagnosing and screening for early detection of dangerous diseases that are medical challenges such as stroke, heart attack, coronary artery disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, brain tumors; diseases of the lungs, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, musculoskeletal system, urinary system, etc.

"The hospital will apply reasonable costs to support many patients, so that customers have the opportunity to enjoy the value of this cutting-edge technology," informed Professor Chau.

Mr. Simon Kreye, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam, assessed that the launch of the Somatom Force VB30 CT machine in Vietnam is a testament to the strong cooperation between the two countries in the medical field. Photo: Tam Anh General Hospital.

Mr. Simon Kreye, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam, assessed that the event not only marked an important step forward in the development of medicine in Vietnam but also demonstrated the strong cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Germany, especially in the fields of technology and medicine.

"I believe that by pioneering the application of advanced imaging diagnostic technology from Germany, Tam Anh General Hospital will not only improve the unit's healthcare standards but also bring the Vietnamese healthcare system closer to international standards," said Mr. Kreye.
