The shootout occurred after an “unauthorized” car show at a park in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sheriff Jeremy Story said at a press conference on March 22. An investigation found that there was an “altercation” between “two groups of people” before “it escalated into gunfire.”

Police believe an estimated 50 to 60 shell casings were collected at the scene, and Story confirmed to local media that "multiple firearms" were used.

While “the majority of the shooting” took place in the parking lot, police also found shell casings in other areas of the park. “This is a large crime scene with multiple subjects…”, Story said at a press conference. “It will take time to fully process.”
