Explaining the phenomenon of continuous heavy rain in recent days, MSc. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological expert, said: According to the usual rule, the southwest monsoon is the decisive factor in the rainy season in the South, starting in mid-May and being strongest in July. Therefore, July is the month with the most rain. Then in August, there is a short drought called "the witch drought". In September - October, the wind and rain return.
Rain will decrease in the coming days but increase again at the weekend
The current rain is caused by the equatorial trough, also known as the tropical convergence zone, which passes across the South and heads towards the Central region. In this convergence zone, there are pockets of thunderstorm clouds, thanks to the strong southwest monsoon pushing clouds inland, causing heavy rain at the weekend. Currently, the wind is weakening until Wednesday of next week, so the rain in the South will decrease in volume but still be widespread. From Thursday onwards, the wind will strengthen again, causing heavy rain over a wide area until the end of next week.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in July, rainfall in the Northern and North Central regions was generally 5-15% lower than the average of many years, with some places in the Northern mountainous region being close to the average of many years. The Central and South Central regions were close to the average of many years. The Central Highlands and the South were generally 5-10% higher, with some places being higher than the average of many years during the same period.
The southwest monsoon in the South is likely to cause many days of showers and thunderstorms in the Central Highlands and the South, with some days of strong thunderstorms and heavy rain, with heavy rain concentrated in the late afternoon.
In July, there is a possibility of 1-2 storms (tropical depressions) appearing in the East Sea and may affect the Northern and North Central regions.
The average temperature in July in all regions nationwide was generally 0.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years; in the Northern, North and North Central regions, it was 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years in the same period.
