Wrong enrollment, 2 boarding schools in Thanh Hoa must pay nearly 5 billion VND

(NLDO)- In the 2022-2023 school year, two ethnic boarding high schools in Thanh Hoa recruited hundreds of students incorrectly, forcing them to pay billions of dong in compensation.

The Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province has just met and agreed to issue disciplinary action against the two principals of Thanh Hoa Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities and Ngoc Lac Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities (Thanh Hoa), and the Head of the Examination Department - Department of Education and Training for violations in the enrollment work for the 2022-2023 school year.

Previously, following the direction of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, these two Ethnic Boarding High Schools organized a review of enrollment work for the 2022-2023 school year.

After reviewing, in the 2022-2023 school year, Thanh Hoa Ethnic Boarding High School recruited 181 students (1 extra quota due to being admitted after re-examination). However, only 28 students were admitted to the right target, the remaining 153 students were not the right target. The amount of money spent on the above students is 2.725 billion VND.

At Ngoc Lac Ethnic Boarding High School, the number of students recruited incorrectly was 120, with the amount of violations being 2,146 billion VND.

The reason for the wrong enrollment is that many villages and hamlets in mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province have been removed from the extremely difficult areas (Decision 861/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2021 regulating the approval of the list of regions III, II, I in mountainous ethnic minority areas and Decision 433/QD-UBDT dated June 18, 2021 of the Ethnic Committee on approving the list of extremely difficult villages and hamlets in the ethnic minority plains), but schools still enroll students from areas that have been removed from the list.

In addition, according to the reports of the two schools, in the admission instructions of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, there is an unclear section on the admission objects. When checking the list of candidates, although it was clearly stated in the notes section that the students are in the priority category such as: Ethnic minorities, ethnic minorities in especially difficult areas, Kinh ethnic group in area 135, the school did not receive feedback from the department about the incorrect objects.

When reviewing the admission list, the school also did not receive any feedback from the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province about the incorrect candidates and the department had approved the admission list for the school...

According to the leaders of Thanh Hoa Province Ethnic Boarding High School and Ngoc Lac Ethnic Boarding High School, all students who were incorrectly admitted for the 2022-2023 school year have stopped receiving subsidies since January 2025.

It is known that nearly 5 billion VND was wrongly granted to hundreds of students of the above 2 schools. The Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province requested the Admissions Council to take responsibility for correcting the problem.
