Violations in enrollment, 2 boarding schools must pay nearly 5 billion VND

(Dan Tri) - Violations in the enrollment process led to incorrect payments of subsidies to beneficiaries. The Admissions Council of two boarding schools in Thanh Hoa must take responsibility for nearly 5 billion VND in compensation.

On the afternoon of March 20, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province announced the decision to discipline the Principal of Thanh Hoa Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, Ngoc Lac Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities and the Head of the Examination Department - Department of Education and Training.

The reason is that the above individuals violated the enrollment work for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province requested the Admissions Councils of these two schools to take responsibility for correcting the incorrect payment of nearly 5 billion VND.

In addition to disciplining the three individuals, the Department also organized reviews and lessons learned with other related individuals.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, in the 2022-2023 school year, Thanh Hoa Ethnic Boarding High School enrolled 181 students, of which only 28 were recruited correctly, while the remaining 153 were recruited incorrectly. The amount of subsidies paid to these students who were recruited incorrectly amounted to more than 2.7 billion VND.

At Ngoc Lac Ethnic Boarding High School, 120 students were recruited incorrectly, with more than 2.1 billion VND spent incorrectly.

The reason for the incorrect enrollment, according to a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, was that at the time of enrollment, many villages and hamlets in mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province had left the particularly difficult area, and the enrollment area was narrowed.

However, the above schools still admitted students from areas that were no longer listed as disadvantaged areas, leading to incorrect payments of subsidies.

"In addition to disciplining three individuals and forcing the Admissions Councils of the schools to take responsibility for correcting the wrong amount of money spent, since January, the Department has requested to stop paying subsidies to all students who were recruited incorrectly for the 2022-2023 school year," a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province informed.
