Prosecution of 4 defendants for wrongfully enrolling students in boarding school in Thanh Hoa

On January 9, a source from the People's Procuracy of Thanh Hoa province said that this agency had just approved the decision to prosecute 4 defendants for the crime of "abusing position and power while performing official duties", stipulated in Article 356 of the 2015 Penal Code (amended and supplemented in 2017) related to wrongful enrollment at Quan Hoa Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities.

The four defendants who have just been prosecuted include: Mr. Ngo Phi Hung - Party Secretary of Nam Xuan Commune, Quan Hoa District, former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quan Hoa District; Mr. Lo Duc Liem - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Quan Hoa District, former Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quan Hoa District;

Mr. Vu Van Que - former specialist of the Department of Education and Training of Quan Hoa district; Mr. Trinh Dinh Hung - principal of Nam Xuan Secondary School, Nam Xuan commune, former principal of Quan Hoa district's Ethnic Boarding Secondary School.

The defendants were prosecuted for holding positions at the time of the enrollment violations from the 2021-2022 school year.

According to the initial investigation results of the police agency, although it was clear that 36/60 students did not meet the requirements to be admitted to Quan Hoa Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in the 2021-2022 school year, the admissions council of the Department of Education and Training of Quan Hoa district (including the 4 defendants mentioned above) still considered these students for admission.

The act of wrongly admitting 36 students to Quan Hoa Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities caused a loss of more than 1.2 billion VND to the state budget.

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police are continuing to investigate the case.
