Bellingham has 41 caps for England and is one of the team's leaders. |
In the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe, Bellingham had an excellent assist for Myles Lewis-Skelly to score on his England debut. The impressive performance of the midfielder currently playing for Real Madrid affirmed his position in the "Three Lions" despite being only 21 years old.
However, coach Tuchel believes that Bellingham needs to improve his mental control to avoid trouble with the referee. The German strategist shared: "He (Bellingham) likes to argue with the referee and the assistants. He is a very emotional player when he is on the pitch, and you can see how much he hates losing, ready to do everything to win."
"I think he will keep this hunger but he needs to learn to control his emotions a little bit. We will try to get the most out of him because he is a key player," Tuchel stressed. "We need to make sure that the leaders, including Bellingham, are all working towards the same goal, playing with the same rhythm."
Bellingham's passion for the game has sometimes landed him in trouble with referees. This season, he was sent off for using abusive language during a La Liga match between Real Madrid and Osasuna.
The Birmingham-born star insists his comments were misinterpreted, but Bellingham has had other run-ins with referees and the media in Spain.
Tuchel admitted that Bellingham needs to control himself better to help England realize their ambition of winning the title. "Maybe they (leaders like Bellingham) need to play a little more disciplined to keep the team spirit, save energy for the decisive moments," the coach assessed.
