Vingroup Corporation has submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works a plan to invest in a high-speed urban railway connecting the city center with Can Gio district.
Vingroup Corporation officially presented a specific plan to build an urban railway from the center to Can Gio district.
Accordingly, Vingroup Corporation proposed a project starting at Nguyen Van Linh Street in Tan Phu Ward, District 7, and ending at a 39-hectare land plot adjacent to the Can Gio coastal urban tourism project, Long Hoa Commune, Can Gio District.
The project has a scale of double track, 1,435mm gauge/track, elevated with a length of 48.5km, designed infrastructure with a speed of 250km/h, axle load of 17 tons/axle. Two depots are expected to be located in District 7 on a 20ha land plot and a 39ha land plot, Long Hoa commune, Can Gio district. Regarding transportation capacity, the trains can carry 30,000 - 40,000 people/hour.
The project is expected to be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) - BOO (build - own - operate) contract. Vingroup Corporation will invest in construction with its own capital and capital mobilized according to the law, own and exploit, operate the project after completion.
The route from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio district currently has very limited public transport connections.
According to Vingroup, the project will start investment preparation work from 2025, including organizing the preparation and completion of the pre-feasibility study report, submitting it to competent authorities for inclusion in the urban railway development plan and approving the investment policy. After that, the organization will prepare and appraise the feasibility study report, decide on project investment...
The project is expected to start construction in 2026, test run and handover in 2028.
Vingroup Corporation proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee consider, approve and give instructions to relevant units to support and guide the implementation of related work so that the project investment and construction can be completed soon.
Previously, according to the announcement of the conclusion at the 16th meeting of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the transport sector, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned Ho Chi Minh City to urgently organize research and implementation of urban railway projects connecting Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport, reporting the results in April 2025.
Can Gio District is located about 50km from the city center. Currently, the main route to Can Gio is by waterway, via Binh Khanh ferry. The city has also oriented that by 2030, this island district will basically become a high-quality resort and eco-tourism city, with the ability to compete at the regional level...
According to Vingroup, the research and investment in the urban railway connecting the city center with Can Gio district according to the policy of Ho Chi Minh City is completely consistent with the trend and demand for traffic development. Thereby, ensuring the connection between the city center and Can Gio district - a new development center of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the same time, the combination of investment in the urban railway line with investment in the construction of Can Gio bridge will ensure synchronization between the technical system.
This helps save time and investment costs in building Can Gio bridge as well as the bridge for the urban railway line.
