BHG - In recent years, the province's agricultural sector has actively promoted, mobilized, and encouraged farmers to expand organic production, contributing to changing traditional production thinking, increasing economic value, and meeting the increasing needs of consumers.

With the advantage of sub-climate, Ha Giang has many typical and strong agricultural products such as: Shan Tuyet tea, Mint honey, Sanh oranges, medicinal herbs, black pigs, yellow cows... Based on the Project "Developing organic agriculture in Ha Giang province to 2025, with a vision to 2030", departments, branches, People's Committees of districts and cities identify groups of typical local crop and livestock products to focus on developing into organic agricultural products. In which, it is divided into crop growing areas and livestock raising areas. Organic crop growing areas include: Shan Tuyet tea area; citrus fruit growing area; temperate fruit growing area; organic rice area; organic medicinal herbs area. Organic livestock raising areas include: Yellow cow raising area; local black pig raising area; organic beekeeping area.

Pursuant to Decision No. 298, dated March 2, 2023 of the Provincial People's Committee approving the Project "Organic agriculture development in Ha Giang province to 2025, with a vision to 2030"; in 2024, the area of Shan Tuyet tea trees in the province that still maintains organic certification is 1,229.26 ha/3,902 ha; the area of newly issued certificates is 10.6 ha/1,220 ha. The area of citrus fruit trees certified as organic is 10 ha; the certified area of organic vegetable products is 30 ha. For other groups of crops and livestock including: temperate fruit trees, high-quality rice, medicinal plants, highland yellow cows, local black pigs, and mint honey, by the end of 2024, there will be no products certified as organic.

Organic agricultural production in the province is still difficult and limited due to many reasons: The work of maintaining and re-issuing certificates is difficult to implement because most establishments (enterprises/cooperatives/production groups...) still rely on the support of the State, and have not proactively spent money to maintain and re-issue certificates; the linkage and self-monitoring in organic production and consumption between establishments and households are not really tight, and there is not a high level of consensus. The awareness of consumers in the area in recognizing and using products that ensure food safety is still limited, and there is not much distinction between certified organic products and products that have not been certified organic. In particular, organic agricultural production must comply with many regulations, so organizing production to meet the strict regulations of organic agriculture is a big challenge.

Recognizing the difficulties, the Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant localities and sectors to focus on implementing the organic agricultural development plan in accordance with the actual situation and the ability to balance resources. Maximize the potential and advantages of the province such as natural conditions, safe production environment; strengthen the production and processing chain linkage between processing facilities and producers, promote the development of high-quality agricultural production, ensure food safety, thereby enhancing the reputation, brand and added value of organic products.

To achieve the goal of maintaining, re-issuing and renewing organic certification for agricultural products by 2025, the agricultural sector is focusing on guiding and encouraging businesses, cooperatives and farmers to apply technology combined with traditional experience to produce organic agriculture linked to the value chain for key products. Introduce biological products and biological organic fertilizers to replace inorganic fertilizers and pesticides in production.

Strengthen management of inputs for organic agricultural production such as: Plant varieties; livestock; fertilizers; pesticides; water sources. Inspect and supervise establishments producing and trading organic products; establish a product traceability system, ensuring product quality in accordance with certified standards when circulating on the market. Coordinate with businesses to build organic agricultural models according to value chain linkages and replicate them in the fields of cultivation and livestock farming. Organize training, coaching, consulting, and guidance on implementing the process of converting to organic production in accordance with the requirements of applicable standards. Promote trade promotion activities, connecting the consumption of local organic agricultural products to consumers.

Organic production is an inevitable direction of modern agriculture when people's living standards are improving, causing the demand for clean agricultural products to increase. Therefore, farmers, businesses, and cooperatives need to continuously replicate effective organic production models, creating many safe products for consumers.
