On his social media account, President Zelensky stated: "The decision to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine would be a completely fair and legitimate response."
The Ukrainian leader also called on partners to “quickly implement the relevant legal frameworks”.
“This year, we must make tangible progress in using Moscow’s frozen assets for the benefit of Kiev. We firmly believe in the leadership of the Group of Seven (G7) on this issue,” he said.
According to him, about $300 billion of Russian assets frozen abroad should be used to support Ukraine and this is a "historic opportunity" to make "Russia pay the price".
Earlier, on December 12, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal on using revenue from frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.
The proposal was presented to the European Council on 14 December.
On January 2, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba reported on the progress made in relation to the confiscation of Moscow's assets in favor of Kiev and said he hoped that a unified legal framework for this purpose would be approved by 2024.
