The remains of 6 martyrs were searched and recovered by Team 584 of the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, lying at a depth of 0.8-1 m, with bones and teeth still intact, carefully wrapped in hammocks. Among them were many relics such as buttons, belts, army shoes and a blue pen with the words "Ngoc Thanh, Anh Tho" written on it. In addition, near the collection area, a pen with the words "Xuan Vo" engraved on it was also found, along with drawings of The Huc Bridge, Ngoc Son Temple, and Hoan Kiem Lake.
At Ka Toi village, Nong district, Savannakhet province (Laos), Team 584 also discovered and collected the remains of 5 martyrs at the entrance of a cave in the forest, 1-1.5 m deep from the ground, along with some relics such as a tank, parachute cloth, personal equipment buttons and a pen engraved with the words "Tran Quang Canh" (or Canh). The martyrs' remains are currently preserved and incense is offered at the martyrs' church in Keng Khan village, Se Pon district, Savannakhet province.
On the same day, Defense Economic Group 337, Military Region 4 searched for and collected the remains of 3 martyrs in Huong Lap commune, Huong Hoa district, temporarily placing them at the church in the district martyr cemetery awaiting burial.
In October, while excavating to collect biological samples to determine the DNA and identity of the martyr, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Tri discovered a cylindrical plastic tube with a diameter of 1 cm and a length of 6 cm, engraved with the word "Vu Tran" at grave number 130 in the cemetery of Cam Lo district. Checking the list of martyrs sacrificed at the Department of Policy of the Ministry of National Defense, the Department determined that the whole country had only one martyr named Vu Van Tran, from Ninh Binh.
After reading the information in the newspaper, the family of martyr Tran requested the Ninh Binh Provincial Military Command and the Policy Department of the Ministry of National Defense to carry out DNA identification procedures and confirm the identity.
During the war against the US, Quang Tri was one of the fiercest battlefields. The province has two of the largest national martyrs’ cemeteries in the country, Truong Son and Road 9, with more than 20,000 graves.
