On September 20, the People's Court of Tien Giang province opened the first instance trial of defendant Huynh Van Hoang (53 years old, residing in Tan Huong commune, Chau Thanh district) for the crime of "murder".
The jury sentenced defendant Huynh Van Hoang to life in prison for “murder”. At the same time, defendant Hoang was ordered to pay 120 million VND in compensation for treatment, funeral expenses, and mental damage.
According to the indictment, at around 5:00 p.m. on March 27, Mr. Hoang and Ms. Tran Ngoc Ph. (68 years old, residing in Hoa Tinh commune, Cho Gao district) had an argument that led to a fight over the fact that Ms. Ph. had previously raised ducks that smelled bad, affecting Mr. Hoang's family living next door.

Suddenly, Mr. Hoang and Mrs. Ph. each grabbed a wooden stick and rushed to fight. Mr. Hoang used the wooden stick to hit Mrs. Ph. many times on the head and shoulders on a rural road in Tan Huong commune, Chau Thanh district, causing Mrs. Ph. to collapse on the road.
Although Mrs. Ph. had collapsed on the spot, Mr. Hoang continued to hit her head about 21 times with a wooden stick and only stopped when someone came to intervene. The entire incident was recorded by a resident's camera.
Ms. Ph. was then taken to the emergency room in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, Ms. Ph. died at around 2:00 a.m. on March 28.
According to the forensic examination results, the cause of Ms. Ph.'s death was due to traumatic brain injury, epidural hemorrhage, brain stem hemorrhage, and skull fracture.
