A 3-year-old boy living in Uong Bi City (Quang Ninh) recently fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury when his parents let him sit in front of the motorbike and accidentally turned the throttle.
On December 25, information from the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital (Quang Ninh) said that the unit had just performed surgery on a 3-year-old boy who suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall.
According to the patient’s family, the cause of the incident was that while the parents stopped the motorbike, the boy sitting in front accidentally turned the throttle and collided with another motorbike, falling to the ground. After the fall, the child was bleeding from the head and had scratches on his arms.
Immediately afterwards, the boy was taken to the emergency room at the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. Examination revealed that the child had a fractured right frontal skull and a contusion of the right frontal brain parenchyma.
At the hospital, the child underwent surgery to lift the skull, stop the bleeding and treat the wound. Currently, after surgery related to the traumatic brain injury, the child's health is stable and continues to be monitored and treated at the hospital.
Doctors at the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital recommend that parents absolutely do not let children stand in front of motorbikes, especially scooters. When encountering an unexpected situation, the vehicle brakes suddenly or moves at an uncontrolled speed, causing accidents for children and everyone around.
When letting children ride a motorbike, they should sit between two adults or use a seat belt and a helmet to avoid dangerous injuries.
