Hue is a leading locality in preserving and promoting heritage values.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, said that Hue is honored to be the first locality in the country to have a heritage recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (Hue Monuments Complex, 1993) and is also the place that owns the first intangible heritage of Vietnam to be included in the list of representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity (Hue Royal Court Music, 2003). Up to now, Thua Thien Hue is the locality with the largest number of world heritages in Vietnam. This is a clear demonstration of the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage system of global value in the land of the ancient capital.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province received the UNESCO certificate recognizing the Documentary Heritage "The reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Royal Palace".
On May 8, 2024, at the 10th Session of the Memory of the World Program for the Asia-Pacific region held in Mongolia, "The reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Imperial Palace" were officially inscribed on the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Documentary Heritage List.
The Nine Tripod Cauldrons were cast in 1835 and completed in 1837 under the reign of King Minh Mang. This is considered a vivid encyclopedia of Vietnam at that time and was recognized as a national treasure by the Prime Minister in 2012.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee spoke at the ceremony.
"UNESCO's recognition of "The reliefs on the nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Imperial Palace" as a World Documentary Heritage once again affirms the stature and historical value of the Nine Cauldrons in the world's cultural heritage, and at the same time brings Thua Thien Hue the position of the only locality with eight heritages recognized by UNESCO," Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized.
According to Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, the bronze castings on the Nine Tripod Cauldrons have preserved the values of exchange and interaction between the cultures of Vietnamese society and East Asian countries. UNESCO's recognition of "The reliefs on the nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Imperial Palace" has raised the total number of documentary heritages of Vietnam to ten, including three world documentary heritages and seven Asia-Pacific documentary heritages.
UNESCO highly values the long-term partnership with Thua Thien Hue - where the conservation of Hue Monuments has been carried out with great enthusiasm and achieved remarkable results. Thirty years ago, UNESCO and the world community recognized the urgency of cooperating with Vietnam to preserve and protect these precious heritages.
"The challenges we face, with UNESCO and Vietnam - an important member state of UNESCO, are the conservation, restoration and restoration, and protection of the original state of world heritage. An equally important task is the problems of the modern world that require us to be more active, such as strengthening our preparedness to respond to the impacts of climate change, helping our world heritage sites to be more resilient to man-made disasters or natural disasters, and optimizing the well-being of the people. To do this, we need the active participation of the community, including young people and women living in and around this heritage," Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker shared at the ceremony.
