(NLDO) - The People's Court of Huong Thuy Town, Hue City has decided to bring the lawsuit demanding 2 billion VND from winning a special prize lottery ticket to public trial.
On March 13, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ng. (residing in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) said that she had received a summons from the People's Court of Huong Thuy town, Hue city to attend the first instance trial of the lawsuit "Dispute over lottery prize payment".
Hue Lottery State Company Limited is the defendant in this lawsuit.
Accordingly, the trial is scheduled to be held publicly at 8:00 a.m. on March 25 at the headquarters of the People's Court of Huong Thuy town. The presiding judge is Judge Nguyen Thi Quynh Chau, along with two people's jurors.
The trial was attended by representatives of the People's Procuracy of Huong Thuy town. Four witnesses in this case, all residing in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province, were also summoned by the court.
In this case, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ng. is the plaintiff, suing the Hue Lottery State Company Limited to pay 2 billion VND for the special prize lottery ticket. There are 4 lawyers participating in protecting the plaintiff’s legal rights and interests; while the defendant appointed Mr. Le Trung Phuoc – Director of the Hue Lottery State Company Limited as the authorized representative to participate.
The course of the case
The Lao Dong Newspaper reported many times that on October 13, 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ng. bought 2 traditional lottery tickets of Thua Thien-Hue Lottery State Company Limited (now Hue Lottery State Company Limited), including one with the winning number 386552 (F) and one with the number 486552 (F). In the drawing on October 14, 2024, ticket 386552 (F) won the special prize of 2 billion VND, the remaining ticket won the special consolation prize worth 50 million VND.
Ms. Ng's lottery ticket won the special prize of 2 billion VND but was not paid.
However, while working in the fields, it rained, so the two lottery tickets that Ms. Ng. put in her shirt pocket got wet. Ms. Ng. dried them, but the lottery ticket that won the special prize was torn and scratched at the end of the numbers on the ticket, and the remaining ticket was crumpled. After receiving the conclusion of the appraisal from the Hue City Police, the Hue Lottery State Company Limited decided to only pay the prize for the lottery ticket that won the special consolation prize, refusing to pay the prize for the lottery ticket that won the special prize of 2 billion VND because the lottery ticket was torn and not intact.
Ms. Ng. filed a lawsuit against the State - owned Hue Lottery Company Limited at the People's Court of Huong Thuy Town, requesting payment of 2 billion VND in lottery winnings. On January 2, the People's Court of Huong Thuy Town announced its acceptance of the first instance civil case " Dispute over payment of lottery winnings ".
On March 6, Huong Thuy Town People's Court reorganized a meeting to check the submission, access, disclosure of evidence and mediation, but it was unsuccessful because both sides maintained their views and could not reach an agreement on the reward.
