On June 22, Mr. Pham Dang Khoa - Director of the Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) of Dak Lak province said that schools in the area have announced the entrance exam scores for grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year, in the form of an entrance exam.
According to Mr. Pham Dang Khoa, it is expected that there will be schools with an entrance score of only 5 points for 3 subjects (Math - Literature - Foreign Language) to pass, the average score for each subject ranges from 1.6 to 5.25 points.
The leader of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training admitted that the exam scores were too low, but they were still within regulations because they did not result in a failing grade. A failing grade in the 10th grade exam is 1 point or less. Schools that are allowed to organize entrance exams will have assigned quotas and based on the exam results, they will convert the admission scores to the school to match the initial quota.
The benchmark scores for grade 10 admission to public schools just announced by the Dak Lak education sector have caused a big surprise as they are much lower than previous predictions.
It is known that the school with the lowest standard score for entering grade 10 in public schools in Dak Lak province (excluding specialized schools) is only 5 points, which is Krong Ana High School; the highest with 15.75 points is Le Quy Don High School and Buon Ma Thuot High School.
Mr. Pham Dang Khoa - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province added that this year's 10th grade entrance exam in Dak Lak has 12 schools organizing the exam with nearly 8,000 candidates registering to take the exam.
The remaining high schools still maintain the admission method (except for private multi-level schools, Tay Nguyen Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities and Cao Nguyen Practice High School which have their own admission method). Students who have taken the entrance exam are entitled to register for one more admission wish at another high school.
This year, Dak Lak has more than 28,000 students registered for grade 10 high school. The province’s target is more than 21,000 students for 53 high schools in the area. Thus, there will be about 7,000 students who will not be able to study in public high schools.
Previously, speaking with Dan Viet reporters, right after the 10th grade entrance exam, many parents and secondary school teachers had expected that the benchmark score for 10th grade in Dak Lak would be the same or slightly higher than last year. When the benchmark score was announced, many parents, students and teachers were surprised because the benchmark score was so low.
