Notes on the 2025 high school graduation exam

TP - The Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) informs students about the 2025 high school graduation exam.

Sharing with reporters, Dr. Le My Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management - Ministry of Education and Training, said that according to the 2025 High School Graduation Exam Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates are only allowed to bring into the exam room items that are used for taking the test. A new point compared to last year, this year candidates are not allowed to bring the Vietnam Geography Atlas into the exam room. Candidates need to pay close attention to the regulations on documents and items that are prohibited from being brought into the exam room to avoid violations, leading to suspension from the exam.

According to Mr. Phong, the purpose of the 2018 general education program is to develop learners' qualities and abilities, so this year's high school graduation exam aims to assess students' abilities and qualities after completing 12 years. Therefore, there will be some new points about the exam subjects, exam time and other related contents. This year, candidates will take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: Literature and Math; 2 elective subjects out of 9 subjects studied in high school. Mr. Phong emphasized that candidates need to choose the remaining 2 subjects for the high school graduation exam that match the admission combination to the desired university.

Mr. Phong especially noted the new points of the 2025 high school graduation exam with subjects in the form of multiple choice. In addition to the 4-choice test (only choose 1 correct option) as every year, this year, there are 2 more types of multiple choice tests: True/false and short answer. In which, the short answer form requires candidates to calculate to find the answer. This new point, according to the leader of the Department of Quality Management, is to properly assess the learner's ability.

Regarding the level of thinking, Mr. Phong said that the exam is built according to 3 levels: knowing, understanding and applying. If only knowing and understanding, candidates will achieve about 70% of the exam score. If they have the ability to apply, candidates can achieve an additional 30% of the score (differentiation score for university admission). Therefore, to do well on the high school graduation exam, candidates need to base on the 2018 general education program. In the graduation exam, the Ministry of Education and Training will include meaningful contexts so that candidates can develop their own abilities. Although there are many textbooks, the Ministry builds the exam based on the curriculum, mainly grade 12. For the Literature subject, the literary argumentation section, the exam can use materials outside the textbook because there are many textbooks.
