With many new points in the 2025 National High School Exam. Some schools only use a part of the high school graduation exam scores for university admission, but instead organize separate exams to assess capacity for admission. Therefore, candidates are currently focusing on reviewing knowledge with separate exams scheduled to be held next month.
Nguyen Viet Hung's goal is quite clear: to pass the entrance exam to a major university in Hanoi, so like many other senior students, Hung is trying to arrange a review plan to perform well in the exams he has chosen.
Nguyen Viet Hung, grade 12 Math, Son La High School for the Gifted: “With only one registration, we only have one chance to achieve the score we set. Therefore, during the review process, we will try to review the basic knowledge, the necessary knowledge, as well as in the process of approaching the exam, we will try to do more practice questions, review all knowledge to prepare the most stable mindset”.
Pressure and confusion are inevitable, because this year's grade 12 students are the first to graduate under the new general education program, and the exam method will have major changes applied to all exams from graduation to the separate university entrance exam. That is also the reason why teachers have to find more learning resources from textbooks to help students review effectively.
Teacher Pham Thi Thuy, Son La High School for the Gifted: “First, we learn about the students' aspirations and wishes. After learning, we will support them to best suit each student. Second, we have to prepare lessons carefully, in addition to preparing in-depth knowledge of the difficult knowledge areas that students are facing. At the same time, we have to train students' skills so that they have skills, because besides studying, students need skills to achieve high test results.”
Each individual exam is also an opportunity to assess ability, helping each student review the knowledge they have learned and adjust their learning methods accordingly. Along with that, the exam hours help them get used to the pressure of the exam room, have a stable mentality and be more confident in the upcoming exams.
Vu Le Diep Chi, 12th grade Literature, Son La High School for the Gifted: “In my opinion, separate exams require quite comprehensive knowledge in many fields, which gives me more knowledge in the fields of social sciences and natural sciences. Giving us practical training, separate exams are also an opportunity for us to practice the pressure in the exam room so that we can have the confidence to do well in the high school exam.”
Aptitude tests are now becoming an important part of the university admissions process, helping candidates demonstrate their abilities beyond their academic scores. However, for students in mountainous areas, such as Son La province, taking these tests is not easy.
Teacher Pham Thi Thuan, Principal of Son La High School for the Gifted: "It is true that students in mountainous areas face many difficulties in the registration process. Registration is already difficult, but many students still cannot register, forcing them to turn to find other options to focus on their studies to get the best high school graduation exam scores."
Each university has its own regulations on the combination of subjects for admission to training programs, so each candidate needs to carefully study the admission plan of each school to register for the correct and sufficient number of subjects, along with trying hard in the general exams to create a wide opportunity for university admission./.
