(CPV) - One of the outstanding characteristics of the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" is the spirit of devotion to the country and the people; readiness to sacrifice and fight for "independence and freedom for the Fatherland, for socialism, for the happiness of the people"; readiness to overcome challenges, proactively overcome difficulties to complete tasks... That spirit has been inherited and promoted by generations of cadres and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army in conjunction with the requirements and tasks in the new situation.

Appearing very early and closely associated with the process of building and maturing our Army, the title “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” is the affectionate way people refer to officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army. “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” is a noble title, containing the respect and trust of the people for our Army. “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” is always a familiar image, a beautiful symbol in the hearts of the people.
Originating from the revolutionary nature of the Army, with the care, education and training of the Party and great Uncle Ho, our Army has always put the interests of the nation, the people and the interests of the people above all else. Coming from the people, fighting for the people, "devotion to the country and the people" is the overarching characteristic in all activities of the Army, the most core factor contributing to the formation of the value of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". Right from its inception, our Army has been trusted and protected by the people; considered as blood brothers because in all circumstances, "Uncle Ho's soldiers" always uphold the spirit of "forgetting themselves for the people, sacrificing for the people". As President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "Our Army is loyal to the Party, filial to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism. Every task is completed, every difficulty is overcome, every enemy is defeated" (1).

During the war of national liberation and defense of the Fatherland, under the leadership of the Party, generations of cadres and soldiers of the Army fought bravely and sacrificed for the Fatherland and the people. The Army is the core force that fights with the entire people, drives out colonial and imperialist forces, and gains independence and freedom for the people. That is not only a noble manifestation of revolutionary heroism, but also contributes to affirming the image and value of the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". The title "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" are the blend of traditional cultural values of the Vietnamese people with the revolutionary nature of the new-style army of the working class led by the Party; it is a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, formed and developed in association with the 80-year history of building, fighting and growing up of our Army.
In the current period, the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" continue to shine at all times, in all places, in all fields. The people of the whole country forever remember the examples of officers and soldiers who bravely fought and sacrificed to protect border sovereignty; protect the lives and property of the people. They are Major Vi Van Nhat (Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command) who sacrificed in 2019; Major General Nguyen Van Man and 10 comrades of Military Region 4 who sacrificed in 2020;.. And most recently, the examples of brave military officers who sacrificed while performing the task of supporting people in preventing, fighting and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3, such as: Professional military Major Tang Ba Hung; Captain Nguyen Dinh Khiem;... have further enhanced the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new period.

In particular, upholding the spirit of “sacrificing oneself for the people”, countless officers and soldiers of the Army have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships, spending most of their youth in remote and extremely difficult areas, revolutionary bases, borders, and islands. “The Army is also the core force in rescue, disaster relief, prevention, control, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics. It can be said that wherever there are difficulties and dangers, there is the Army. The image and noble qualities of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” are still maintained, promoted, and loved by the people” (2).
Preserve and promote the spirit of devotion to the country and the people
Over the past years, in response to the requirements and tasks of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation, the spirit of devotion to the country and the people, along with the values and qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", has always been preserved and promoted by our Army. The vast majority of officers and soldiers of the Army have actively cultivated, trained, maintained and promoted the cultural standards of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"; promoted their roles and responsibilities, strived to overcome difficulties, and strived to fulfill their duties and tasks; and are worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State and People.
However, a small number of cadres and soldiers have not fully realized and have not yet raised their responsibilities in preserving and promoting the spirit of devotion to the country and the people, the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"; hostile and reactionary forces are always trying to promote "self-evolution", "self-transformation", spreading the ideology of "depoliticizing the Army", distorting the image and noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". Along with that is the impact of the negative side of the market economy and the pragmatic lifestyle, the mentality of enjoyment, reluctance to contribute, laziness to strive, etc. This requires continuing to promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", promoting the spirit of serving the country and the people in each cadre and soldier of the Army.
Party committees and commanders at all levels need to strengthen ideological leadership and political education, raise awareness and responsibility for cadres and soldiers in preserving and promoting the spirit of devotion to the country and the people; promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". Regularly innovate political and ideological education, suitable for each specific group of subjects; step up propaganda, raise the responsibility of cadres, party members and soldiers in each field of work; encourage and spread examples of selflessness for the country and the people. Continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement Directive No. 855-CT/QUTW of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee on promoting the implementation of the Campaign "Promoting tradition, dedicating talent, worthy of the title "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" in the new period" in conjunction with promoting the implementation of Directive No. 05-CT/TW of the 12th Politburo "On promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle" and Resolution No. 847-NQ/QUTW of the Central Military Commission on promoting the qualities of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers", resolutely fighting against individualism in the new situation.

Pay attention to promoting the role of cadres and party members, especially cadres in charge at all levels, in training and striving to follow the characteristics and standards of the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", especially the spirit of serving the country and the people in performing tasks. Cadres and party members strictly implement regulations on exemplary responsibility in all aspects of work, truly being exemplary models in promoting the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". At the same time, arouse the spirit of "7 dares" so that all cadres and soldiers of the Army are always ready to receive and complete their tasks well; ready to go to difficult and arduous places with a spirit of dedication to the country and the people.
Each agency and unit needs to continue to innovate and diversify the emulation movement to win with rich forms and contents in all areas of activity, such as: Research, study, training, combat readiness, etc. The emulation movement to win must be carried out regularly, comprehensively, in depth, closely following the requirements of the central political tasks and the characteristics and peculiarities of each agency and unit. Focus on building and replicating good models and creative ways to spread the spirit of dedication to the country and the people among the majority of cadres and soldiers.
At the same time, it is necessary to continue to research, perfect and implement well the preferential treatment policy for the Army, especially the forces performing tasks in border areas, islands, particularly difficult areas, and special fields. This is both a recognition and an encouragement for Army officers and soldiers to be more determined to complete their tasks well. It is necessary to focus on mobilizing and combining resources, mainly on the basis of State guarantees, promoting the combined strength associated with appropriate socialization in implementing preferential treatment policies for the Army, especially policies on salaries, social housing, etc.
