On the afternoon of August 30, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan received Ms. Katherine Muller Marin, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi. Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve has been selected by UNESCO as the first typical biosphere reserve, a laboratory model for sustainable development education.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his joy and gratitude for the close and effective cooperation between UNESCO and the Vietnamese Government over the past time.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO for coordinating with the Vietnam National Committee for Man and the Biosphere (MAB) and localities nationwide to actively deploy and carry out activities to maintain the network of biosphere reserves recognized by UNESCO. Ms. Katherine Muller Marin thanked Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan for taking the time to meet her and said that UNESCO highly appreciated Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve, which was chosen by UNESCO as the first typical biosphere reserve, a laboratory model serving sustainable development education to be replicated for other countries to learn and apply.
On this occasion, Ms. Katherine Muller Marin also reported to the Deputy Prime Minister about supporting Vietnam to complete the dossier of Cat Tien National Park to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a world natural heritage in the coming time./.
