Recently, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted announced the list of students who registered online but did not submit their applications and invalid applications as of 5:00 p.m. on June 1. Accordingly, 35 applications were returned because they "did not meet the requirements for the preliminary selection".
Some parents were shocked when their children's 5-year primary school report card had all 10s but they were still eliminated in the application round and were not allowed to take the entrance exam to grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The reason is that some subjects assessed by comments are only marked as "Completed" and not "Completed well" or "Completed with distinction".
In response to this information, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the admission criteria for grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in the 2023-2024 school year have been adjusted to create more favorable conditions for students.
Because in the previous school year, to be able to take the entrance exam to grade 6 of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the final report card of all primary school classes had to achieve the title "Students who have completed excellently all learning and training contents".
When developing this year's enrollment plan, listening to and absorbing the opinions of teachers and parents, for the 2023-2024 school year, the school has adjusted the admission criteria to facilitate students.
Specifically, the criteria for the final report cards of primary school students instead of "Excellent completion" has been adjusted to "Students complete well the learning and training content" or higher.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, these criteria are built on the basis of Circular No. 30/2014/TT-BGDDT dated August 28, 2014 and Circular No. 22/2016/TT-BGDDT dated September 22, 2016 of the Ministry of Education and Training, ensuring the selection of students who form and comprehensively develop the basic elements that lay the foundation for harmonious physical and mental development, qualities and abilities.
With such adjustment of criteria, the number of valid applications has increased significantly compared to previous years.
According to the Department, the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted was established with the core mission of training and nurturing excellent students for the capital and the country. The school's secondary school is where intelligent and talented students are discovered to continue training and nurturing them at higher levels.
Every year, the school's 6th grade enrollment always receives the attention of many people in the capital, requiring the school to make great efforts and carefully study the regulations of the industry to build reasonable enrollment criteria, create favorable conditions for students, and meet the task of discovering and training talented, qualified and capable students.
However, the representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also said that he had directed the school to carry out enrollment and organize teaching in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department; listen to and absorb the opinions of parents to study in the coming school years to continue to perfect the criteria to facilitate students but must be consistent with teaching and assessment according to the Ministry's instructions.
According to the 6th grade admission plan of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted announced last April, to be eligible to take the entrance exam to the school, students must score 167 points or more, which means they can only have a maximum of 3 9 points during the 5 years of primary school, the rest must all score 10 points.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted will enroll 5 6th grade classes with a total enrollment target of 200 students.
