On March 25, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long visited and worked in Mayabeque province, discussing with provincial leaders the potential for cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture and energy.
The visit is part of a series of visits and working activities by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuban localities to deepen the traditional friendship in the year of the 65th anniversary of Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic relations, while promoting practical and sustainable cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Le Quang Long, together with Comrade Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, Member of the Party Central Committee, First Secretary and Comrade Manuel Aguiar Lamas, Governor of Mayabeque Province, visited two ceramic tile and sanitary ware factories of the Vietnam-Cuba joint venture company SanVig, SA, Santa Cruz Agricultural Company and Havana Club Rum Factory located in the province.
At the two factories of the SanVig, SA joint venture, the leaders of Mayabeque province highly appreciated the role and contribution of SanVig to the socio-economic development of the province. The company's ceramic tiles and sanitary ware products are essential products, playing an important role in the local social housing programs.

On this occasion, First Secretary of Mayabeque Province Crespo Baquero said that the local government has tried to ensure electricity for the operation of the SanVig brick factory as Ambassador Le Quang Long had suggested during his working session in Mayabeque last January.
Comrade Yuniasky Crespo Baquero affirmed that the province will continue to pay attention to overcoming difficulties in input materials, transportation and energy so that SanVig factories can operate stably, contributing to solving the huge demand for construction materials in Cuba.
The installation of a solar power plant, if implemented, could help SanVig reduce operating costs by about 20%, increasing product competitiveness.
Mayabeque Province is one of the regions with strong potential for agricultural development in Cuba, with a favorable climate and fertile soil. However, the sector is facing difficulties due to lack of seeds, equipment such as harvesters, drying systems and fuel.
Therefore, the province wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in projects to provide agricultural equipment and inputs as well as sustainable energy solutions to implement the plan to expand the province's rice growing area to 5,000 hectares of rice in 2025.
In addition to rice, Mayabeque also produces many types of vegetables and fruits, but processing and preservation capabilities are limited due to lack of technology, leading to a large amount of agricultural products being lost and not meeting export requirements.

At the province's Santa Cruz Agricultural Company, Ambassador Le Quang Long appreciated Mayabeque's strengths in agricultural production with a number of high-quality and productive products.
Sharing Vietnam’s experience in developing and exporting agricultural products, the Ambassador affirmed that he would continue to connect Vietnamese enterprises with Mayabeque, especially in the fields of rice production and agricultural processing. In the current difficult context of Cuba, promoting production and finding export directions for local strengths is essential to be able to reinvest and develop production, thereby redistributing to social projects.

During the visit, given the fact that prestigious and high-value products such as Havana Club's Rum lines are currently rarely marketed in the Vietnamese market, Ambassador Le Quang Long, along with provincial leaders and Havana Club International Company, discussed the possibility of promoting Cuban Rum products in Vietnam as well as the opportunity to access the Asian market, which currently accounts for only 1% compared to Havana Club's 61% export market share to Europe.
