This is the first official visit to Vietnam since taking office and the first high-level delegation after the two countries upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, actively contributing to promoting cooperation in all fields, especially economics , trade, industry and energy between Vietnam and Singapore.
Official talks between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong
After the official welcoming ceremony on the morning of March 26, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a high-level meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The two leaders had an in-depth discussion on the regional and international situation, assessed the outstanding achievements of cooperation between the two countries in recent times, and agreed on major orientations to enhance comprehensive cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade, industry and energy. The two sides also pledged to strengthen cooperation to ensure food security, creating conditions for opening up food products of animal origin exported to Singapore from Vietnam.
On the Vietnamese side, Vietnam affirmed that it always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Singapore, effectively coordinates the implementation of high-level agreements, especially the results of the official visit to Singapore by General Secretary To Lam, including cooperation on offshore wind power trade from Vietnam to Singapore.
Signing of cooperation documents
Under the witness of the two Prime Ministers, the two sides exchanged many important cooperation documents. Based on the Joint Report on Offshore Wind Power Trade Cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Second Minister of Industry and Trade of Singapore Tan See Leng exchanged the Letter of Intent on Cross-Border Power Trade Cooperation towards the ASEAN Power Grid.
The Letter of Intent is designed to affirm the importance and promote cross-border electricity trade cooperation in general and offshore wind trade cooperation in particular between Vietnam and Singapore, contributing to the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative, promoting regional growth, energy resilience and sustainability.
Attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony of VSIP Thai Binh Industrial Park Project
Also within the framework of the activities to welcome the Singaporean Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam, the two countries' senior leaders witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of the VSIP Thai Binh Industrial Park Project. The project is invested by Vietnam - Singapore Urban and Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company (VSIP) with a total investment of more than VND 4,932 billion (equivalent to nearly USD 212 million). The event marks an important step forward in the province's socio-economic development strategy, towards building a modern, green and sustainable industrial park.
With the foundation of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, strong leadership from senior leaders and close coordination between ministries and sectors of the two countries, Vietnam and Singapore will together bring trade and energy cooperation to a new level, creating substantial results, contributing to building a sustainable and prosperous future for both countries as well as for the region.
Singapore is currently one of Vietnam's leading important trading partners in Southeast Asia. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover will reach 10.5 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% compared to 2023. This is an impressive growth rate in the context of many difficulties in the regional and global economy .
