At the reception, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure to meet Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink again in his new position. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister acknowledged and appreciated Mr. Kritenbrink's positive contributions to promoting the bilateral relationship over the years, most notably the upgrading of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023 and the arrangement of General Secretary To Lam's visit to the United States in September 2024.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always considers the United States a partner of strategic importance and is ready to cooperate with the United States to develop bilateral relations in a stable, substantive manner, in line with the interests of the people of the two countries, in which economic - trade - investment relations continue to be an important pillar, especially in the context of Vietnam's efforts towards the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030 and becoming a developed country with high income by 2045. Former Assistant Secretary of State Kritenbrink appreciated Vietnam's efforts to strengthen communication and contact channels at all levels, especially at high levels, with the US Administration, as well as Vietnam's efforts to adjust policies towards more harmonious economic and trade relations between the two countries, including considering tax reductions for some US products and increasing imports of some high-quality energy and agricultural products from the US.
The former Assistant Secretary of State shared some of the current policy adjustments of the US Administration, and affirmed the role and contribution of the business community in continuing to maintain the stable and effective development momentum of the Vietnam - US relationship for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son and former Assistant Secretary of State Kritenbrink agreed that 2025 is an important year in bilateral relations, marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam. They said that the two sides need to continue to cooperate closely in areas of mutual interest, especially cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war, helping to build and strengthen trust between the two countries, while opening up opportunities for cooperation in other potential areas.
