On the morning of August 10, the Provincial People's Court held a first-instance criminal trial and sentenced the defendants: Pham Minh Cuong (born in 1994, residing in Buon Ho town) to 19 years in prison, Tran Vuong Trong Nghia (born in 1995, residing in Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province) to 18 years in prison, Nguyen Van Giap (born in 1994, residing in Buon Ma Thuot city) to 18 years in prison - all for robbery; Truong Cong Viet (born in 1997, residing in Krong Nang district) was sentenced to 8 years in prison for harboring property obtained by another person's crime.
According to the indictment, while serving their sentences at Dak Tan Prison (Ministry of Public Security), Cuong, Nghia, and Giap got to know each other. After being released from prison, in September 2022, Cuong persuaded Nghia to go and appropriate property from people in Buon Ho town.

On the morning of October 14, 2022, after being persuaded by Cuong, Nghia called Giap to come to the house of Ms. LTT (born in 1971, Thien An ward, Buon Ho town) to wait, waiting for the opportunity to break in and rob property. When seeing Ms. T.'s husband driving to work, Cuong stayed outside to keep watch while Giap and Nghia jumped over the fence into the house. Here, the two subjects used electric batons to threaten and control Ms. T. to open the safe and hand over the property.
After taking all the money and gold in the safe (total value of more than 2.3 billion VND), the subjects used tape to wrap Ms. T's hands and feet and then escaped. The robbery caused Ms. T. to have a fractured vertebrae with a disability rate of 23%.
After robbing the money, Cuong brought it to Viet and asked him to hide it. Although he knew that Cuong had stolen the money, Viet still helped his friend take it to the coffee plantation to hide it.
It is known that defendant Nghia had 4 previous convictions with a total of 14 years and 11 months in prison for theft; defendant Giap also had 4 previous convictions for theft; defendant Cuong had a previous conviction of 15 years in prison for murder; defendant Viet had a previous conviction of 6 years in prison for child rape.
