Similar to previous book projects of the Hanoi Urban Sketching group such as “Old Hanoi Collective: Sketches and Memories”, “Hanoi Old Quarter: Sketches and Memories”, “Impressions of Hanoi from sketches of French-era buildings”, this new project will continue to collect articles and sketches by members and artists to introduce to the public a different perspective on Hanoi Old Quarter cuisine.

Speaking at the project announcement event, Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Pham Tuan Long affirmed that the book "Sketching the flavors of Hanoi's Old Quarter" is a welcome project, a product to promote and introduce Hanoi cuisine in general and Old Quarter cuisine in particular.

“With a rich presentation, I believe that Hanoi’s dishes will be known to many people across the country and international friends. This is also a way to honor the artisans, those who preserve the soul of Vietnamese kitchens and family traditions,” said the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District.

Introducing the project, Ms. Pham Vu Thuong Nhung, a member of the book compilation team, shared that “Sketching the flavors of Hanoi’s Old Quarter” is a journey to collect simple things through sketches. Not only sketching shops and dishes, but each drawing is a slice of memory, each life story is a sound of Hanoi. These works are the result of a journey wandering the streets of “artists who paint the streets with flavors” - to record life stories and career stories.

“The book is a way for us artists to shoulder the responsibility of “carrying the street”, contributing to preserving the familiar, profound things that are part of the soul of Hanoi’s Old Quarter,” Ms. Pham Vu Thuong Nhung shared.
