On January 10, Ben Luc District Police, Long An Province, announced that they had just arrested four people pretending to be criminal police officers and robbing passersby.
Accordingly, in the early morning of December 22, Mr. NTD (born in 2021, from Tra Vinh) was driving a motorbike on Provincial Road 830, from Duc Hoa district to Ben Luc district. When he reached the section belonging to Hamlet 1, Luong Binh commune, Ben Luc district, he was approached by 4 people on 2 motorbikes.
A man got out of the car and claimed to be a “criminal police officer” and said that Mr. D. was transporting contraband and asked him to show his papers. Before Mr. D. could react, the group hit him and snatched his cell phone. When Mr. D. reacted, the group assaulted him.
After that, the group asked Mr. D. to take the car to the police station, but when they reached a deserted road in Tan Duc Industrial Park, Huu Thanh Commune, Duc Hoa District, they left Mr. D. on the road and took the car to escape.
The incident was reported to Ben Luc District Police. After several days of investigation, Long An Province authorities arrested two suspects, Thach Hoai Bien (25 years old) and Duong Lonh (34 years old, both from Soc Trang) at a rented room in Hamlet 5, Pham Van Hai Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.
The authorities then continued to arrest Ly Thai Nguyen (aka Chien, 23 years old) and Thach Thi Si Vol (aka Linh, 24 years old), both from Soc Trang. The suspects confessed to impersonating criminal police officers to rob Mr. D. of his property and selling it for 18 million VND.
This group also confessed that they had collaborated with many other subjects to successfully carry out many robberies of passersby using similar methods.
The case is being further investigated by Long An provincial authorities.
