The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is coordinating with the Institute of Archaeology under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to conduct an urgent excavation of two ancient boats recently discovered by local people in Cong Ha quarter (Ha Man ward, Thuan Thanh town).
Authorities are urgently excavating ancient boats.
The location of the ancient boat's discovery is on the Dau River, a branch of the Thien Duc River - Duong River, flowing close to the western bank of Luy Lau Citadel. The discovery location is about 1 km from Luy Lau Citadel, about 600 m northeast of Dau Pagoda; about 500 m as the crow flies from To Pagoda (worshipping Buddha Mother Man Nuong).
According to initial assessment of archaeological experts, these could be two cargo boats on the Dau River, permanently connected together. This is a unique discovery, with a strange structure with a solid structure that can withstand force and water well.
"Although it is not possible to confirm the exact age, according to the rule, if it is a dugout canoe, it usually dates from early in history."
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Institute of Archaeology to continue excavation, clarify data, and assess the overall value of the age, nature, and regional and local connections of the ancient boat relic. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to organize a workshop, invite experts to participate in research and debate to have an accurate assessment of the value of the ancient boat relic. Local authorities have plans to ensure security and safety in the excavation area and the ancient boat relic; and propagate to the people about the protection of cultural heritage.
