Lien Chieu wharf area (belonging to Da Nang seaport) will be planned to meet the needs of container, liquid/gas and bulk cargo.
In the Detailed Planning Report for the development of land and seaport areas in Da Nang for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, submitted by the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Waterways to the Ministry of Construction, Lien Chieu wharf area has been specifically proposed to meet the needs of various types of goods.
Perspective of Lien Chieu port project.
Accordingly, Lien Chieu port area plans container, general, bulk cargo, liquid/gas cargo ports and public service ports, barges with ships of up to 100,000 tons or larger when qualified.
Goods passing through the port area fluctuate from 8.7 - 13.7 million tons. The port scale will be from 5 - 8 newly built ports (including 5 - 8 wharves) with a total length of 1,380 - 2,780m and 1 bulk cargo port with a total length of 100m, 3 specialized buoy wharves relocated in accordance with the investment progress at Lien Chieu port area in the period of 2030 (excluding other ports).
Specifically, the container port will plan 2-4 wharves (including 2-4 wharves) with a total length of 750-1,650m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons or larger when qualified.
Of which, 2 ports will be put into operation to handle 7.5 - 11.9 million tons of goods; the remaining 2 ports will be developed to meet the needs of international container transit.
Liquid/gas cargo ports serving LNG and LPG storage are planned to have 1-2 ports (including 1-2 wharves) with a total length of 250 - 750m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons or larger when qualified, meeting the need for cargo throughput from 0.45 - 0.75 million tons.
For buoy wharves and transshipment anchorage areas at Lien Chieu wharf area, relocation will be carried out in sync with the investment process of container ports at Lien Chieu wharf area.
At the same time, investing in 2 liquid cargo ports (including 2 wharves) with a total length of 380m to receive ships with a capacity of 30,000 tons to replace liquid cargo ports when relocated, meeting the need for goods throughput from 0.75 - 1.05 million tons.
According to the detailed planning of seaports, ports, wharves, buoys, water areas, and water regions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Lien Chieu port area has 2 - 4 ports (including 2 - 4 wharves).
Of which, 2 start-up ports will handle 7.5 - 11.9 million tons of goods, while the remaining 2 ports will develop to meet international container transit needs.
