Construction of 2,300 billion VND port starts, connecting Quang Binh with the world

At the groundbreaking ceremony of Hon La seaport (Quang Binh), the investor committed to constructing the project on schedule and putting it into operation from 2026.

On March 21, in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province, Hon La Port Joint Stock Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hon La International General Port Project. This is a key project to develop seaport infrastructure, promoting socio-economic development of Quang Binh province and the region.

Hon La International General Port Project is large-scale with a total investment of up to 2,299 billion VND, spread over an area of ​​39.22 hectares.

The project is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 (2022 - 2026): Construction of 2 ports with a total length of 470m, including wharf No. 1 with a length of 230m and wharf No. 2 with a length of 240m, receiving general cargo ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons. Expected capacity is 3 million tons/year.

Phase 2 (2027): Build 2 more ports with a total length of 500m, including wharf No. 3 with a length of 240m and wharf No. 4 with a length of 260m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT. Expected capacity is 6 million tons/year.

Mr. Tran Phong, Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee, requested the investor to fulfill its commitment when constructing the Hon La port project.

Hon La Port is planned synchronously, including warehouse system, logistics area and modern technical works. With a strategic location in Hon La Bay, sheltered by Hon Co Island and Hon La Island, the port has an ideal natural depth, suitable for large tonnage ships.

In addition, the port is located about 6 nautical miles from the coastal shipping route, 360 nautical miles from the international shipping route in the East Sea, about 4km from National Highway 1A, and 150km from Cha Lo international border gate.

This is a favorable condition for connecting goods from Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and neighboring economic zones.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Quang Dao, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration (Ministry of Construction) informed that Quang Binh is a province with potential for marine economic development with a coastline of 116km, including Hon La Bay, an area sheltered by Hon Co Island and Hon La, which has the conditions to build a port for ships with a tonnage of up to 70,000 DWT to enter and exit to load and unload goods.

"When completed, it will be a great driving force, promoting investment attraction to develop Hon La economic zone and Quang Binh province; contributing to reducing transportation costs, improving the competitiveness of local and regional goods," Mr. Dao emphasized.

Also at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Phong emphasized that Hon La International General Port is one of the important ports, of strategic importance to the socio-economic development of the country in general and Quang Binh province in particular.

According to Mr. Phong, once completed, Hon La port will connect goods in the region, receiving two-way goods from Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China... and major economic centers by sea.

Mr. Phong also requested the investor to fulfill its commitment, implement the project in accordance with the approved investment policy, ensure safety, efficiency, and fully meet technical and quality requirements.
