To be recognized as a product meeting OCOP standards, establishments must go through a journey of brand formation. Up to now, OCOP products in Go Dau district have made progress in quality, design, and packaging, ensuring the conditions prescribed for stamps, labels, and traceability of product origin. Most of the products achieving 3-star OCOP are chili salt, shrimp salt, pepper salt, etc. In particular, durian products of Bau Don Fruit Tree Cooperative, Phuoc Dong commune, achieved 4-star quality.
The cooperative was established in December 2019. When it was first established, there were 27 members, and now there are 71 members. Mr. Phan Van Thoai, owner of a durian garden in Hamlet 7, a member of the cooperative, shared that choosing the right crop that brings high economic value is not an easy task.
His family has a long tradition of growing durian, but initially encountered many difficulties. Before growing durian, his family cultivated rice, then after a while switched to growing beans and longan.
Changing to any crop did not bring economic efficiency, so he switched to growing durian. Later, durian was "noticed", durian farmers in the area, with the support of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment), established a cooperative.
With a production process following VietGAP standards, the Cooperative's durian products always ensure the best quality when reaching consumers. In 2022, Bau Don Fruit Cooperative's durian was recognized as a 4-star OCOP product.
Making rice paper is a long-standing traditional occupation of many households in the province, including Go Dau district. In recent years, this locality has had rice paper production facilities that have achieved 3-star product quality. Notably, My My Food Production - Trading - Service Co., Ltd. (Cay Trac Hamlet, Phuoc Dong Commune) has traditional dew-dried rice paper that has achieved 3-star product quality.
The owner of this business said that the rice paper making profession was inherited from his parents. Over the years, the whole family has worked together to preserve the traditional profession, with the goal of bringing delicious and safe products to consumers nationwide.
The Anh rice paper production facility (Cam Thang hamlet, Cam Giang commune) also practices the traditional profession with products that meet 3-star quality standards. Ms. Nguyen Thi Trong Tam (38 years old), the owner of the facility, said that she started making rice paper when she was 9 years old. Her family has been doing this job for 30 years, and currently has 6 siblings following the profession. To date, The Anh facility has 2 production machines with 17 workers. Each day, the facility produces 38,000 rice cakes, supplying markets in and outside the province.
Phu Gia Bao Food Processing Facility (Phuoc Trach Commune) started operating in 2012. The representative of this facility shared that, from her hobby of eating salted rice paper, she initially made it to eat, then gradually she made it to sell, products such as chili salt, shrimp salt, and pepper salt.
Phu Gia Bao traditional fermented bean curd products in Go Dau district.
As for the fermented bean curd product, she followed in her uncle's footsteps. Her uncle has been making fermented bean curd for over 70 years. He is Chinese and has followed his grandparents' footsteps since he was 15 or 16 years old. Traditional fermented bean curd takes more than 30 days to be ready to eat.
Although processing is very hard, she thinks it is necessary to preserve the traditional profession, so she maintains and develops it until now. When the State implemented the One Commune One Product program, the facility strived and carried out the procedures to be recognized as meeting the 3-star OCOP standard for 4 types of products.
According to the 2025 plan, the Department of Agriculture and Environment sets a target of having 20-30 more products recognized as OCOP products with 3 stars or more, bringing the total number of provincial-level OCOP products to 150, of which there are 3 potential products eligible for evaluation and classification as 5 stars; promoting the development and expansion of production scale and market for OCOP products with 4 stars or more.
In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Go Dau district will increase information and propaganda so that people and the community understand the purpose, requirements, policies, raise awareness of conservation, sustainable development and proactive raw material sources in the production of OCOP products; mobilize and guide establishments to maintain product standards; in 2025, develop 3 more products with 3-star quality.
