Two projects under the anti-landslide project combining traffic routes along the Vam Co Dong River and the Ben Luc town embankment, Long An province, have been under construction for more than three years but have not been completed due to land acquisition problems.
On March 25, reporters noted that houses were still scattered at the construction site, most concentrated in the 750m section from the Vam Co Dong River to Ben Luc River to An Thanh Bridge, where many households were still living normally.
Construction of embankment to prevent landslides on the riverbank of Ben Luc town.
Mr. Le Thanh Ut, Chairman of Ben Luc District People's Committee, said that the project affected 425 households, currently 11 households and two organizations are still complaining about the compensation price so the site has not been handed over.
However, in recent days, the local government of Ben Luc town has continuously met, had dialogues, and explained the significance of the project and the rights of the people when the project is completed, so everyone agreed to receive money and committed to handing over the site in March.
The contractor has gathered machinery and equipment ready to start construction simultaneously when there is continuous land.
Mr. Tran Van Tai (57 years old, living in Ben Luc town, Long An) said that since the embankment construction began, local people are very happy because they no longer have to spend money on reinforcing the riverbank.
Up to now, the project to prevent erosion and landslides on the banks of the Vam Co Dong River and protect Ben Luc town has been gradually completed with an aesthetic design, opening up development opportunities for the locality.
Land acquisition problems are causing the project to be behind schedule.
The contractor representative, Hai Duong Embankment Construction and Rural Development Joint Stock Company, said that the unit will organize the construction of items that are not affected by the site such as: Roads, sidewalks, and drainage culverts to complete the project in June this year.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Deputy Director of the Long An Province Construction Investment Project Management Board, in Ben Luc District, there are two projects under the riverbank erosion prevention embankment project under construction. Up to now, the progress has reached over 95% of the volume. The project was started in 2022, and was scheduled to be completed in 2024. However, due to land acquisition issues, the progress has to be extended to the end of June 2025.
According to Mr. Phuong, the contractor has gathered materials, machinery and equipment, and is waiting for continuous construction to complete the project on schedule.
Some sections of the project have been completed very spacious and clean.
The project has a total length of more than 3.5km, with over 750 billion VND of central and local capital. When completed, the project will have a road behind the embankment, a road surface width of 5.5m and sidewalks on each side of the embankment 2m wide. Along the route of the project, there will be a drainage system and a drainage culvert across the embankment.
This is also one of the good conditions for the locality to improve infrastructure, create a civilized urban landscape, serve the cultural, service and economic development of Ben Luc district and neighboring areas.
