Cam Ranh International Port has been approved by the Ministry of Transport to add liquid cargo capacity (Illustration photo).

Specifically, receiving general cargo, container, and bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons; receiving liquid/gas cargo ships with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons; and receiving international passenger ships up to 225,000GT and cruise ships and yachts.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Cam Ranh wharf area of Khanh Hoa seaport is planned to serve the socio-economic development of Khanh Hoa province and the Central Highlands region.

The port area has general, container, bulk, liquid/gas, passenger and defense-security service ports; ship size: general, container, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons; liquid/gas cargo ships with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons; international passenger ships up to 225,000 GT and cruise ships and yachts.

In the Detailed Planning of seaports, ports, wharves, buoys, water areas, and water regions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Cam Ranh port area has 7 ports (including 19 wharves), meeting the need for cargo throughput from 5.5 million tons (4.5 million tons of general cargo, 1 million tons of liquid/gas cargo) to 6.5 million tons (5 million tons of general cargo, 1.5 million tons of liquid/gas cargo), and passengers from 80,000 to 90,000 passengers.

After the detailed planning of seaports, ports, wharves, buoys, water areas, and water regions, the Joint Venture of Port Design and Marine Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company (Portcoast) and the Transport Development Investment Consulting Center has completed the dossier to establish the detailed planning for the development of land and water areas of Khanh Hoa seaports in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and sent it to the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration.

The planning research results of the consulting unit show that Cam Ranh international port has 7 passenger wharves, combining general cargo and liquid and gas cargo with a total length of 2,147m, receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 225,000 GT, serving up to 40,000 passengers (the current tonnage of cargo ships is 110,000 tons).

Comparing the proposal of Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Company Limited, the Maritime and Waterways Administration assessed that the contents on port functions and proposed ship sizes are consistent with the functions and ship sizes planned for Cam Ranh port area in the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system.

However, the proposed content on receiving container ships, cruise ships, and yachts is not consistent with the results of the research on the planning of Cam Ranh International Port.

Currently, the results of the study on the Detailed Planning for the Development of Khanh Hoa Seaport Land and Water Areas for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, are being reviewed by the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration before being submitted to the Ministry of Construction for consideration and approval.

Cam Ranh Port has 5 wharves (wharfs 2, 2A, 3, 4 and 5). Therefore, the Vietnam Maritime Administration requests Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Company Limited to clarify the proposed ship sizes of the wharves, ensuring compliance with the design.

In case the wharf receives a ship with a tonnage exceeding the design capacity, the company is responsible for following the instructions of the Ministry of Transport on receiving ships with tonnage exceeding the design capacity.

Regarding liquid cargo capacity, the Ministry of Transport has approved the addition of liquid cargo capacity (asphalt) to wharf No. 4 - Cam Ranh International Port.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration has also announced the addition of the capacity to receive liquid cargo ships (asphalt) with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons for wharf No. 4.

From here, the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Waterways Department requests the Ministry of Construction to request Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Company Limited to clarify the type of liquid/gas cargo with the investor's proposal. In case the liquid/gas cargo is gasoline, oil, and gas for civil purposes, it must ensure compliance with the approved planning on infrastructure for storing and supplying gasoline, oil, and gas.
