Just like that, for nearly 20 years now, Mr. Dinh Dac My and his wife, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thao (both 79 years old) have been working hard at the beef noodle shop located in a deep alley on 3 Thang 2 Street (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City).
The owner was slow but… no one rushed him.
When he was young, he did business and raised 6 grown children. Then, when he was over 60, Mr. My and his wife "retired behind the scenes", as he jokingly put it. But that did not mean that he and his wife allowed themselves to "live alone".
Mr. My and his wife opened a beef noodle shop since their "retirement".
Since then, every day, the couple has been waking up early to cook beef noodle soup to sell to customers in the morning and afternoon. But for nearly 3 years now, because of their deteriorating health, they only sell from 2pm to evening, usually selling out by 7pm.
Currently, the couple lives with their second son and his wife. Occasionally, when they are not busy with work, their daughter-in-law also helps out so that the bowl of noodles can reach the customers faster. One special thing is that, although the owners work hard and take a long time to prepare the dish, no one rushes them, because all the customers sympathize and know that they tried to make it as fast as possible.
A bowl of beef noodle soup costs 50,000 VND at the restaurant.
Having just finished making a bowl of beef noodle soup for a customer, Mrs. Thao said that because the restaurant is located in a deep alley and only serves in a family space, most of the customers have been regulars for decades. Occasionally, there are also passersby who come to support, but not many.
Each bowl of beef noodle soup at the restaurant costs 30,000 VND - 50,000 VND depending on the customer's needs. The restaurant also has a special bowl, priced at 60,000 VND. When a customer orders, the owner carefully and slowly puts a portion of noodles into the bowl, adds sausage, beef tendon, beef shank, pork leg... a little coriander, blanched onion and then pours in the fragrant broth.
Old age but not old spirit!
At first glance, the bowl of beef noodle soup of the couple is not too special compared to other restaurants I have tried. But the highlight here is the fresh ingredients and the rich, sweet broth that suits my taste. Personally, I give it 8/10, worth eating and coming back many times.
Every afternoon, Ho Chi Minh City suddenly rained. I sat in a small restaurant, with a cozy family atmosphere, leisurely eating a bowl of delicious beef noodle soup, looking out at the street, what an interesting experience.
The restaurant is located at 436B/152 3/2 Street (District 10).
In the restaurant, customers regularly come to have a snack. Among them is Mr. Hai Duong (34 years old, living in District 10). He ordered a full bowl for 50,000 VND, then sat at the table waiting for the food to be brought out.
Mr. Duong said he has been a regular at the restaurant for the past 3 years, ever since he moved here. Because he is addicted to the taste of beef noodle soup at his grandparents' restaurant, he comes to eat almost every week, at least 2-3 times, at most 4-5 times.
Ms. Dung (44 years old, living in District 10) said that her husband and children really like to eat beef noodle soup at Mr. My's restaurant. "Whenever we crave it, the two of us ask to go eat, or ask our mother to buy it to take home. My grandparents' beef noodle soup is to my taste, I like the rich broth. Even though they sometimes take a long time to make, I think it's normal, because at their age they can still do business, so I love and support them," Ms. Dung said, taking 2 portions of beef noodle soup to take home.
They said they will sell until they no longer have the strength.

At this age, Mr. My said that the happiness of him and his wife is to work every day, to bring the most dedicated bowls of noodles to customers who have come to support the restaurant for many years. They will continue to sell until they no longer have the strength to do so...
