A restaurant in Ha Tinh City has just opened and has attracted the attention of local residents by hanging a sign saying 'no payments on behalf of others'.

Located on Le Duan Street in the heart of Ha Tinh City, the Hue beef noodle shop owned by Dang Thi Cam Huong, although recently opened, is always bustling with customers.

Early in the morning, following some friends, I arrived at the restaurant to enjoy Hue flavors in the chilly weather.

Looking around the restaurant, what impressed me was the red signs posted on the walls and placed on the dining table with the message "Please do not pay for others".

Seeing me curiously looking at the sign, the friend sitting next to me said: "This restaurant does not collect tips. People who sit at a table have to pay for that table themselves."

Owner Cam Huong said that in addition to ensuring food hygiene and safety, her family's Hue beef noodle shop also focuses on eating and drinking etiquette.

Customers still have the habit of paying for other people, including friends and acquaintances, who are not sitting at the same table as them. This sometimes annoys the restaurant owner.

There are even diners who are paid for but still feel uncomfortable because they don't want it.

“From the first day of opening, we posted signs saying no payment is allowed so that customers can eat freely, comfortably and happily.

At first, some customers still insisted on paying for us. But when we refused, they had to agree," said Ms. Cam Huong.

Mr. Quoc Chinh (living in Ha Tinh city) is a regular customer at the restaurant and said that Ha Tinh city is not big, so most of the people with wide connections know each other.

When I go to a restaurant and meet an acquaintance, if I don't pay for them, I feel quite guilty, not to mention the person who pays for them won't be happy either.

“There are many cases where people go to a restaurant and then meet each other, and when they finish eating, they fight over who pays, creating an unpleasant image.

Moreover, fighting over paying also makes it difficult for the restaurant owner because they don't know who to receive the money from," Mr. Chinh added.

Worried about "strange" regulations

Previously, "A restaurant has a 'strange' rule: Not allowing paying for other tables" in Quang Binh also attracted the attention of many readers.

Reader tieu****@gmail.com shared: "I run a restaurant so I know the reason for this: Because regular customers often pay for each other.

Gradually, many people who were paid were afraid to come back to eat, and those who paid were also afraid of the cost so they stopped coming. The restaurant owner lost customers.

Account thie****@gmail.com "strongly supports the restaurant owner's regulations. I have had to give up many of my favorite restaurants because acquaintances often pay for breakfast.

After eating and paying, the owner said someone else had already paid, making me in debt.

If I can't invite someone back, I feel guilty. I can't afford to have a meal or a cup of coffee for myself.

According to reader Dat: "At first, diners may be a bit surprised, but this seems to be a good way to do it. There are so many people in the area, and they all know each other, so if you meet someone without paying, it's awkward, and if you keep paying, it's even more awkward."

Now the reason "the restaurant doesn't allow payment" is reasonable. Whoever really wants to pay, come over to the same table".

However, reader vant****@gmail.com asked: "Why should we be embarrassed about not paying for acquaintances, knowing whether they need us to pay? When they go out for breakfast, they have already prepared the money, who needs someone else to pay for them?"

Meanwhile, a reader from Da Nang expressed: " When I go out to eat with an acquaintance, and I feel like I know them too well, I still pay for them every now and then, but if I see them all the time, I don't."

As for those who only know a little, after eating, they say goodbye and leave. They also know that it's embarrassing to pay them back, and it's a "mouth debt".

To avoid worrying about this, reader Nguyen Gia commented: "It's fine if anyone comes in to eat, orders food, and pays first."
