World Reacts to the Death of Iranian President

Iranian officials and media confirmed on May 20 that President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner long seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been killed in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border.

At the time of the accident, the helicopter was also carrying Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati, 1 Muslim cleric, 2 pilots and 3 security personnel.
